The biggest mission group LEAST has hosted to date! Kurtis Rephlo headed up the mission with 17 Theta Xi fraternity brothers (alongside his brother Derek and graduated fraternity brother)...20 guys...to take on the last bit of demolition left on the first level of Casa Feliz. 💪🏼👷🏻‍♂️😷👊🏼

In 4 days, they demolished the remaining 25 windows, all the old tile in the kitchen, took out all the termite infested door frames and jack-hammered all the concrete baseboards in the entire 1st level. Not to mention visiting elderly in the community and power washing, water sealing and painting the outside of the first building….first time it has been painted since 1979!

Many thanks to the guys for their hard work…this major step gets us excited for taking up construction hopefully in the near future!

In 3 hours, 27 capsulotomies (YAG) lasers and glaucoma (SLT) lasers were done today for local eye patients here in Casa Feliz. We are grateful for the gift it is to have the opportunity to provide over $5000 worth of medical treatment to the poor for free!

Another successful eye brigade for Foundation for Saving Sight!

In just one week the team was able to achieve: 56 consults, 52 cataract surgeries & 3 minor eye procedures. All the hard work was done with the help of ophthalmologists Dr. Chris Wallyn, Dr. Josh Olson and Dr. Moss Fenberg (with his kids Jacob & Anna Fenberg), ER doctor Dr. Erine Fong Olson & Certified Surgical Technologist Marie Smith. It is a privilege to continue to work alongside the staff at Hospital Obras Sociales Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer to restore eyesight to those in need here in Guatemala for over 35 years!

Dr. Joseph Merck, alongside his team of surgical techs (Dave and Marcus), his three younger siblings (Maria, Clare and Paul) and local ophthalmic assistant (Juan Pablo) were able to attend to 45 consults and 35 cataract surgeries this past week.

Many thanks to Hospital Obras Sociales Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer, their staff and for the Foundation for Saving Sight as they continue to work together to bring quality eye care to those in need.

6 years working with this wonderful group from Kansas! From tropical storms to volcano eruptions to weddings and babies…to building houses or delivering "pilas" and beds or helping remodel Casa Feliz…we've been through so much together and I am so grateful for the Ascension Mission group's love and commitment first to the Lord and also to the people of Guatemala.

They now began their own nonprofit "John 13:34 Foundation" and are committed to helping LEAST and other nonprofits here in San Lucas. We are looking forward to the years ahead in working together to bring more of God's love and Kingdom to this community!
