Sometimes we don’t fully understand what it means to serve… until it hurts. Serving is not just showing up, doing something, and leaving. Serving means staying when it’s no longer easy. It means walking with people through their process, teaching, guiding, and loving even when there are limitations. Serving is about investing your life in people, not just in moments. Today, that kind of service feels deeper, heavier, and more real.
One of the young men from our community, part of the very first team we had at One Way, is no longer with us. This is not just news, it’s a story, a process, a life we witnessed closely. I saw Edgar accept Jesus, I saw him get baptized, I saw him walk through his journey. No one can take that away. That is something that was planted in eternity, even as we face the pain of his loss today.
We have often been judged, made to feel like what we do does not matter or that others are doing it better. But the real question is, who stays? Who cries with those who cry? Who remains when there are no immediate results? It is easy to start something, but not everyone chooses to stay when reality becomes difficult.
Who sees them be born again, but also walks with them until the very end? Who continues praying for the generations that remain? Who keeps embracing people even when schedules, work, and personal life get in the way? We believe in staying. We believe in process. We believe in walking with people as long as it takes.
Jesus, thank You for Your salvation and for Your sacrifice on the cross. If there is anything we are not doing right, forgive us. If someone needs Jesus, show us the way to reach them. Give us strength to keep going, to not give up, and to keep serving with genuine love, even in the middle of pain.
To those who support us, who invest their time, resources, and lives, thank you. God has used you to sustain us and walk with us in this journey. Thank you Kenneth Pablo, Pablo Pérez, Lucio, Pablo Castillo, and Gustavo Ortiz, with whom we witnessed Edgar take the step to follow Jesus and be baptized.
Today it hurts. But it also reminds us of something important. It is worth continuing. Every life matters. Every effort has value. We are not investing in programs, we are investing in people. And that will always carry eternal value.
“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
