Carlos S. Romero

Some years ago, I preached a sermon in my church of Grupo Amor in Colima, Mexico.
The title of the sermon was “The City of God,” based on Daniel 1:1.
In the Bible, there are two cities which are constantly mentioned from Genesis to Revelation.
The first city is Jerusalem. This city is the city of God. The word Jerusalem is composed of two parts, Jeru (foundation) and salem (shalom), foundation of peace. God loves the foundation of peace, and He wants the best for each city in the world.
The second city mentioned in the Bible is Babylon, the city of confusion, intimidation and violence.
When Jerusalem is up, Babylon is down; and when Babylon is up, Jerusalem is down.
In these moments, my city Colima, and other cities in Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato, etc., are experiencing the symptoms of Babylon.
I pray for my Colima, my state, my city where my roots, my family, and my friends are.
Give faith and hope to my country, we ask, Lord, for Mexico…don’t allow it to be far from You.

My prayers for Colima and the states around it,

Carlos S. Romero

If you have the Word without the Spirit , you dry up. If you have the Spirit without the Word, you blow up. If you have the Word and the Spirit, you grow up.
Si tienes la Palabra sin el Espíritu, te secarás, si tienes el Espíritu sin la Palabra la regarás, pero Si tienes la Palabra y Su Espíritu, crecerás.

A few weeks ago, I came back from my mission trip to Chiapas and Colima, Mexico.
The last time we were in Chiapas, we had a harrowing experience. On our way, our vehicle was stopped and surrounded by men from a drug cartel with automatic weapons in our faces! After we finished our visit to the Bible institute, we preached in two churches. Then I talked to my pastor friend and basically said goodbye, I will not be coming back any time soon! We continued to send him a monthly offering to support his work there, and I returned to my family.
After praying for direction, the Lord gave me a green light to visit the same area in Chiapas, Pacayal, and Paso Hondo, Mexico. These particular places had been greatly affected by the drug cartels and organized crime. Many of the Christian churches and businesses were full of bullet holes and had been forced to close, but Luz a las Naciones Churches continue to show the of light Christ in the middle of the crime.
We went to evangelize on the streets and had the opportunity to share the gospel with one of the bosses that “work” for the drug lords of the region.
We shared the Word of God with him and his wife. "We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." There is hope and forgiveness due to the love of God. We told him, “You can be forgiven, you can be transformed, and God can help you to have a new life.” He and his wife felt convicted of sin and he almost visited the church; we continue praying for him.
I had the opportunity to preach in three services in two churches, visit with my friends and provide a $1,000.00 dollar offering (from the HFN ministry account) for a car fund and medical bills for the pastor.
After being in Chiapas for 4 days driving 12 hours in a small pick-up, I took a flight to Guadalajara and then a bus to Colima.
Colima is my home town. It is a beautiful destination but, sadly, is one of the most dangerous states in Mexico due to drugs and violence, which are out of control.
I preached to the youth on a Saturday and preached in three services on Sunday.
During the week, I visited with pastors and elders of the church.
The ministry time was very productive, very difficult but fruitful.
Every first Saturday of the month I have been going to evangelize with music and a devotional at a Methodist church here in our area. I am also getting involved with Kairos prison ministry. This Saturday I am going to a training, and we will be visiting a prison here in Texas from July 17 to the 20. (The Lindsey State Jail is a privately operated minimum- and medium-security prison for men located in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas.) Please pray that we may see many men coming to Christ.

Emily is currently helping a family with three autistic teenagers for three days each week. This is a single-mom household with three teens who are on a preschool level.
She is also teaching an 8-year-old girl how to read at our house for a low-income single mom who is desperate for help for her daughter.

Our son Jonathan is about to finish his 6 week mission trip in the Middle East, and Analynne will leave soon to go to the Czeck Republic on a mission trip.

It is hard to believe, but we have been in Texas for one year! It has held many ups and downs, but we are grateful to the grace of God which has gotten us this far.

We thank you for your prayers and financial support to our ministry and to our family.

In His hands.

A nation may choose evil and evil may chose a nation. At the same time, we cannot judge individuals by nations of which they are part or by the course that such nations may choose to follow. And we must remember that the love of God reaches out to each and all without partiality. Those who follow God must, on one hand, recognize and oppose that which is evil and yet, on the other, extend mercy to those under its influence and spell. They must love those who hate them and pray for their redemption. For nations, peoples, and individuals have free will. They can change their course, and the mercy of God has no end or limitation. Emily and I had the blessing of leading worship for the staff of Rock Pointe Church in Flower Mound, TX.
The leadership of this church is so friendly and devoted to God, that it was very pleasant to lead them in to the presence of our Lord.
Thank you, Colleen, nuestra buena amiga.

A few days ago, a good friend of mine invited me to evangelize and share the Word of God at a church located on the corner of Smithfield and Davis. As you can imagine, the weather was very cold; however, we had close to thirty people come for food, and I was able to sing a few songs and share about the prodigal son.
In the same weekend, we had a major plumbing problem in our house. Usually, if it is something minor I can fix it, but this one was too big; and therefore, I assumed it would be very expensive.
After I came home from sharing God’s Word, I went to the hardware store and asked the clerk if he knew a plumber. The guy behind me replied, “I am a plumber.” He came to our house the same day and gave us a quote of $1,500. “Would you like to sign the contract?” No, for the moment my wife and I have to talk and pray about it.
The next day the plumber company contacted me, but this was a different guy. He said, “I would like to go and double check your leak; maybe I can fix it for less.” Somehow he asked me, “Are you a minister?” “Yes, I replied, “but I have respect for your work, and I am willing to pay; just give me your best price.”
As he started to remove the sink and break into the wall, he realized that the problem was bigger that he expected, but he felt led to donate his labor. “Wow! Thank you, but we were not expecting to have all these repairs for free!” He fixed the problem and was ready to charge us for parts only, but his partner said, “I am not a believer, but I will not charge you for parts either.”
Before they left our house, I gave each one a piece of good, homemade cake (tres leches), a homemade wooden decoration from Guatemala, and I prayed for them.
This has been one of the greatest blessings we have experience in our new house and new life in the U.S.
I was also invited this month to do a memorial service for a gentleman from our old church. Before he passed away, Emily and I visited him and his wife and we prayed for them.
Thank you for your prayers and financial support to our ministry; please continue to pray for us during this transitional time. Carlos has been in contact with pastors, and he is looking to get connected with the right ministry here in the DFW area.
