Did you know that introducing a new queen bee can help keep a hive strong and productive?

The queen plays a vital role in the colony. As her egg-laying capacity declines over time, introducing a young, healthy queen can help maintain a strong population of worker bees, improving the colony’s ability to collect nectar and pollen, care for the brood, and produce honey.

For the beekeepers of Las Lisas and Sarstún, strengthening hive management also means building skills and sustainable livelihoods that contribute to the conservation of mangrove ecosystems.

We gratefully acknowledge 2X Global for supporting community beekeeping, women’s empowerment, and mangrove conservation in Guatemala.

Members of the Flor de Mangle Apiary in Las Lisas shared how this project transformed their lives. Before joining, most had little knowledge of beekeeping. Today, they produce honey, contribute to their families' income, and play an active role in ecosystem conservation.

Beyond technical skills, the women highlight how the project strengthened their confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Key milestones include apiary growth, increased hive production, and successful honey harvests, achievements that motivate them to reach new markets and expand their impact.

Their message to other women: believe in your abilities, embrace new challenges, and trust that dedication and collective effort can transform your life and your community.

We thank 2X Global for making this initiative possible and for supporting women's empowerment and sustainable livelihoods through beekeeping.

Post-harvest hive health management is essential for strengthening bee colonies and preparing them for the next productive season. With this objective, we conducted a sanitary monitoring and control activity at the Ki'il Sarstoon and Flor de Mangle apiaries, promoting good beekeeping practices for the prevention and management of diseases and parasites that affect colony health.

We would like to thank all the beekeepers who participated in this activity and extend our special appreciation to 2XGlobal for their valuable support and commitment to strengthening sustainable beekeeping.

At Mundo Azul Foundation, we believe conservation is more than protecting nature, it’s also about protecting people, livelihoods, and the future of Guatemala’s coastal communities.

Through collaboration with local communities, Mundo Azul Foundation works to create meaningful, long-term solutions that protect marine ecosystems while supporting the people who depend on them. Together, we can build a healthier future for Guatemala’s oceans, mangroves, and coastal communities.

Last week, we explored a common myth about sharks. Now it's time for the next challenge:

"Sharks actively attack humans."
Myth or Fact?

Through science-based information, we aim to separate fact from fiction, foster a deeper understanding of these remarkable animals, and highlight the essential role they play in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

Because conservation begins with knowledge.

Know. Love. Conserve.

We sincerely thank The Rufford Foundation and Luis von Ahn Foundation for their invaluable support of our shark conservation and education efforts.

A single beehive can do far more than you might imagine.

Every bee helps pollinate mangrove forests. Mangroves protect our coastlines, safeguard our oceans, and sustain the livelihoods of communities across Guatemala.

At Mundo Azul Foundation, we work alongside local beekeepers to conserve this vital ecosystem, and you can be part of the change.

Adopt a beehive for USD 35 per month and directly support marine conservation while strengthening the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Healthy oceans need healthy ray populations.

Rays play a vital role in maintaining balanced marine ecosystems, yet many species face increasing threats from overfishing, habitat loss, and unsustainable fishing practices.

At Mundo Azul Foundation, we work alongside coastal communities, researchers, and decision-makers to protect rays and promote sustainable fisheries across Guatemala, the Eastern Pacific, and Mesoamerica.

Every donation helps advance research, strengthen conservation efforts, and safeguard the future of these remarkable animals.

Know. Love. Conserve.

We had the opportunity to speak with Félix Vega Quing from the Ki’il Sarstoon apiary about the important work they are doing to promote beekeeping and strengthen their community in Barra Sarstún.

During the conversation, Félix shared the role of sustainable beekeeping in supporting local livelihoods and explained how these efforts contribute to biodiversity conservation and community development.

The Shark Club is back with the workshop "Who's afraid of sharks?"

We're excited to continue inspiring the next generation of ocean guardians through fun, hands-on learning about sharks and marine conservation.

A huge thank you to Profe Tiburón for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion with our young participants.

Mundo Azul Foundation is celebrating World Shark Month with a little challenge for you: Sharks can only live in open seas... Myth or Fact?. Through science-based information, we hope to inspire people to better understand these incredible animals and recognize their importance in healthy marine ecosystems.

Because the first step toward conservation is knowledge: Know, Love, and Conserve.

We thank The Rufford Foundation, and Fundación Luis von Ahn for their valuable support of the conservation of sharks.
