Fr Romanelli: Pope’s Message Brings Hope to Gaza’s Christians

Despite the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Leo XIV sent a message of solidarity and hope to Holy Family Parish, the only church in the Strip. He assured the faithful of his continued prayers and thanked the priests, religious sisters and church workers who remain beside the people.

Fr Gabriel Romanelli said the Pope continues to stay in contact with the parish and repeatedly calls for an end to the war and for peace across the Middle East. He explained that the church remains a spiritual and humanitarian shelter for dozens of displaced families.

The parish recently experienced brief moments of joy through hymns, prayer and a celebration marking ten years since the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of .

However, Gaza’s humanitarian situation remains extremely difficult, with continued attacks, shortages of aid and growing food insecurity affecting more than 1.4 million people.

For Gaza’s Christians, the Pope’s message is a reminder that they are not alone. Fr Romanelli concluded that prayer remains their strongest response to suffering and expressed hope that calls for peace will soon lead to practical action and an end to the suffering of civilians.
