With site design underway for the 2025-26 season, Contour Lines continues to scale across the USA. Now with 121 farms in 25 states, more grants still available for this season *(info below).

🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳💪🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳

Meet some of the folks planting tree grants restoring landscapes while producing food with Contour Lines Agroforestry:

🌳 Charles & Jah, following their grandparents farming traditions since 1940. G4 Farms – Crawfordville, GA

🌳 Rocky & Olivia, producing probiotics from home-grown ingredients. Soil Shine Farm & Ferments – Burnsville, NC

🌳Nick, using his Contour Lines grant to plant a silvopasture system for grazing his chickens, pigs and goats between rows of trees. BOTL Farm – Ashford CT

🌳Taylor MacDonald, providing educational experiences on his permaculture demo farm. Eden’s Harvest at Death Farm – Chickamauga, GA

🌳 Dante Layton, reconnecting with land and community through farming. Fast Feast Farm – Bartow, GA

A big thanks to these 5 farmers—and over 100 more across the US—who have partnered with Contour Lines to restore ecosystems, cultivate food systems, one foot at a time.

Join the movement. Applications are still open for this season. See the link in the comments and the description of this FB page to apply.

*Contour Lines USA provides tree/training grants in exchange for adopting soil conservation methods. This empowers landowners and small farmers to transform degraded land into nutrient-rich, biodiverse agroforestry systems with minimal external inputs or labor. Through these grants, Contour Lines scales regenerative farming practices that reforest land while renewing economic opportunities.

🌳𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.🌳

Seven years ago today, in a trailer office on a Virgina farm, Sean Dixon-Sullivan asked Tommy Turok how to create a 501c3. He knew how. After two hours of online forms and one pot of coffee, Contour Lines was born.

One simple goal, plant as many feet of Contour Lines as possible.

Sick of seeing orgs that waste time with meetings, meeting about meetings, then meeting about that meeting they previously met on, just to finally draft a proposal... that would require more meetings; sick of orgs that revolve around "educating" only to preach their so-called superior way to farmers who would then go home and never implement it, or "planting projects" that only drop off trees to take a photo and then never return, only for the trees to die; sick of orgs that waste tons of funds with offices full of admin staff, teams of who-knows-who driving around in fancy pickups, achieving who-knows-what; sick of what Sean sees daily visiting communities in Guate—the same old story from campesino families who have seen nonprofits offering, paternalizing, wasting money and achieveing nothing, committing the same error for decades, still, since Roland Bunch published "Two Ears of Corn" on this exact subject over 30 years ago.

Tommy and Sean knew a shift in nonprofit development has been needed.

For 7 years they've scaled a work model. Low overheads, no pickups, no offices, just Tommy and Sean on the admin side and a team of bad@ss local techs getting **it done. Contour Lines.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲:

🌳Providing the productive backbone of our agroforestry sites and the main incentive for campesinos to plant them—the grafted fruit trees, over 600k to date—thanks toDwight Carter of Frutas del Mundo, his nursery crew led by Jason and post-harvest dept. led by Daniela.

🌳Guiding us with the wisdom and experience in how to organize and motivate rural communities, thanks to Abelardo Pop, our original field technician, and now supervisor and trainer of the rest of the field teams.

🌳Doing the work, from training the families, designing and planting the sites, to monitoring, gathering data and coordinating the harvests—our field technicians are the next generation of leader, making this regenerative transition happen across Guatemala. Thanks to Ronaldo, Wilson, Diego and Victor, and their up-and-coming sub-techs, now leading teams of their own.

🌳Supporting from afar, yet just as essential, thanks to our donors. One Tree Planted, Fundación Mundo Azul, I Give Trees, Ecosystem Restoration Communities, Agroforestry Regeneration Communities, Abundant Earth Foundation, Trees That Feed Foundation, One Earth

And bringing income to the families restoring their land with Contour Lines agroforestry projects, motivating them to further expand this work to our post-harvest department, thanks to the Contour Lines Post Harvest department, Contour Lines Center, led by Nictê Milhose and Ulysses Milhose.

Contour Lines Products are now available in 8 locations at Lake Atitlán and Antigua Guatemala, and by order in USA (see locations below). Made at our Contour Lines Center, the ingredients come from organic, biodiverse agroforestry systems planted in indigenous communities.
🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳💪🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳

Purchasing these products supports smallholder families transitioning their land out of slash-and-burn chemical monocultures, and into Contour Lines agroforestry, which:

🌳builds food security and local economies,
🌳mitigates climate extremes,
🌳displaces chemical use,
🌳improves biodiversity,
🌳conserves soil,
🌳reduces chemical and sediment runoff into mangroves and the Mesoamerican reef.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀,
because now with over 16k Contour Lines agroforestry sites planted across 435 villages in Guatemala, this important task of adding-value and marketing the harvests sustains the whole movement:

🌳It directly funds the planting of more trees. For example, 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝟯 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙨, 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝘾𝙖𝙘𝙖𝙤 𝘽𝙖𝙧 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝟭𝟬!
🌳It sustains these Contour Lines’ post-harvest initiatives,
🌳and most importantly it brings income and incentivizes these smallholder families who are working to restore their lands with agroforestry.

So far most Contour Lines projects have ocused on agricultural production; the 15k project sites planted in 430 communities across Guatemala have been primarily with smallholder farming communities. But this project we're planting rows of ornamental, flowering trees. enhancing San Cristobal El Alto's reputation as a travel destination, already an officially-designated "Garden Village."

Any successful reforestation project must achieve not only ecological health but also economic weath (in this case, eco-tourism).💪🐦🐝🌱🌳🌷

Legume trees are the backbone of Contour Lines sites, fixing nitrogen, producing mulch, and forming the erosion-control barriers. This is the first of four Contour Lines Methods. Combined they form a complete regenerative system that 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵-𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻, 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁. They replace the need for families to purchase chemical fertilizers and pesticides. (These methods also serve as the grant requirements for families to receive Contour Lines projects, helping us avoid paternalism and work only with the most dedicated families).

While these educational videos help spread the message, we don’t just teach, we implement! To date Contour Lines' technicians have planted these sites with 15.8k families across 429 villages in Guatemala.
🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳 💪

Thanks to Abelardo Pop, starring in this video, speaking in his native language (Q’echi maya). He began as Contour Lines’ original field technician in 2019, and his feedback has been the single greatest contributor to the success of our work.
