🌍 Today we celebrate World Environment Day!

Our coasts are among our most valuable natural assets. They support biodiversity, local economies, tourism, and the quality of life of coastal communities.

Today, climate change and coastal erosion pose growing challenges to these fragile environments. Through the AD.CO.A.ST. project, the municipalities of Zakynthos, South Corfu, Porto Cesareo and Pisticci are working together to better understand coastal erosion, strengthen local resilience, and promote sustainable adaptation solutions.

🌍 Partner Spotlight: Δήμος Ζακύνθου - Municipality of Zakynthos
The Municipality of Zakynthos is the Lead Beneficiary of the AD.CO.A.ST. project, coordinating the joint efforts of partners across Greece and Italy.
🌊 As a coastal municipality with rich biodiversity and unique natural habitats — including important nesting areas of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) — Zakynthos faces increasing challenges related to coastal erosion and climate change.
Through its active role in the project, the Municipality contributes to the development of monitoring solutions and community-based adaptation strategies, aiming to protect both its coastal environment and local livelihoods.
🤝 Strengthening resilience today means safeguarding natural heritage for future generations.

🌊 Introducing AD.CO.A.ST. Project

Coastal erosion and climate change are increasingly affecting small coastal communities in Greece 🇬🇷 and Italy 🇮🇹, posing significant risks to ecosystems, infrastructure, local economies and everyday life.

The AD.CO.A.ST. project aims to address these challenges by strengthening the capacity of coastal municipalities through cross-border cooperation, knowledge exchange and innovative solutions.
📍 The project brings together the:
• Municipality of Zakynthos
• Municipality of South Corfu
• Municipality of Porto Cesareo
• Municipality of Pisticci
🔍 Through its activities, the project will:
✔️ monitor coastal erosion using innovative technologies
✔️ develop community-based strategies
✔️ promote Nature-based Solutions 🌱
✔️ support climate change adaptation 🌍
🤝 By combining scientific knowledge, technology and community participation, AD.CO.A.ST. contributes to more resilient coastal areas and sustainable local development.
