We have always based our actions on the actual needs on the island. Constantly, we adapt to make sure our services align with what’s most needed and how we can make the biggest impact with the resources we have at hand. We seek out daily conversations with our service users - to make sure everything we do is thought through in collaboration with those who need us the most. And we surround ourselves with amazing partners who are ready to quickly adapt to different situations and rising needs.

During the last months we have witnessed a rise in clothing needs, and we have already adjusted with an upscaled monthly support for all children and their parents, both for those who are new to Samos and those who have been here for a while. With winter kicking in, we want to make sure we cover as many needs as possible, and we therefore expanded our upscaled recurring support to additionally include all single women on a more frequent basis than previously. We now provide the strongest recurrent support in clothing that has ever been on the island. On top of that, we cover a long list of recurring needs in food, hygiene and household items. None of this would be possible without flexible partners who are ready to adjust and act fast. Today we want to say a special thanks to , , , , , & for being adaptable and always seeking out an understanding of how we join forces to make the biggest impact together. Thanks to you all, we have been able to put our full efforts into making sure everyone already received special winter items such as jackets - and we’re ready to keep up the same level of support for everyone who will arrive during the coming winter months, while still continuing our all-around recurring monthly support.

In our Free Market we’re constantly on the outlook for more sustainable and long-term solutions. Because it’s not just about providing humanitarian support. It’s about rethinking what makes most sense. For people. And for the planet.

Lately we have been exploring different ways to support women with a more sustainable approach to period management. In collaboration with amazing partners, we have been looking into reusable period products to assess the impact these products would have on the widespread period poverty experienced by women living in the camp.

On average, a menstruating person uses 11,000 menstrual products in their life, and standard products take up to 1000 years to decompose. This is an absolute scandal for our environment. On top of this, there’s the financial burden of having to buy new products each and every month. Women shouldn’t have to go through this added struggle. Everyone should have access to hygiene items for period management. It’s a matter of very basic dignity. This is why we teamed up with , and together we have been offering sustainable period underwear and reusable pads to women and teenage girls living in the camp. Throughout 2025, many new arrivals have been families. We have therefore registered a large number of children in our Free Market, and in order to keep providing significant support to all, it has been necessary to upscale and strengthen our focus on families.Β 

At the beginning of the year, malnutrition in children living in the camp here on Samos was documented. On top of that, we witnessed a critical deterioration regarding hygiene throughout the camp population, and particularly families are struggling. As a response we are providing stronger and more frequent support to families, with a particular focus on making sure to meet the needs of children of all ages. We provide all-around support which includes food, hygiene items, clothing, household items and educational materials. All children deserve a safe and dignified childhood. It’s as simple as that. Today we want to make a massive shout-out to , & , who have made our response to children’s needs much more impactful - thank you.

The weather is shifting and colder, rainy and stormy days are ahead of us. As usual, we make sure to start our autumn & winter distribution early so that everything goes out timely to everyone in need.Β 

Following the seasons is a vital part of distributing clothing, and it’s simply inefficient and wasteful to start distributing seasonal items too late. That’s why we have already started giving people a choice of warmer items, including blankets and jackets.Β 

As we’re leaving the summer time, we want to share our appreciation of amazing partners who have been making sure we had enough stock to get through all the summer months. Thanks to , & everyone in need has received summer clothing, shoes and household items. Together you have gathered, sorted and sent us numerous pallets. The impact you make is remarkable. Thanks to you, we’re also in a good position to make sure people will have the items needed during the coming colder months.
