❤️ YOU DID IT €7,000 REACHED! OUR NEXT GOAL: €10,000! ❤️

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to our fundraising campaign. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have reached our first target of €7,000! We are truly overwhelmed by your kindness and support. 🙏❤️

But we are not stopping here! Our next goal is €10,000, because there is still so much to do to improve the living conditions of our cats and kittens.

We need better shelter, a secure roof, dry and safe sleeping areas, storage space and an improved kindergarten for our little ones.

With more than 150 cats depending on us every single day, every euro brings us one step closer to a safer, drier and better place for them.

Can you help us reach our next goal of €10,000? If you have already donated, THANK YOU! If you can share our campaign or make another contribution, it would mean the world to us.

Together, we can make a real difference for the cats of Kalithea Cats. 🐾❤️

With grateful hearts, The Kalithea Cats Team

It's raining again, weather forecast for today was not good. Even the parades for the national holiday 28 October, Oxi day, were cancelled... but the team is feeding. ⛈⚡⛈
Last Saturday they worked so hard to make KC more weather proof, but the cats and we really need a roof!

25th of October, an extra hour in bed? Forget it! Nobody told the cats that the clocks had changed, and 150 hungry tummies don't care what time it says on the clock. Breakfast is late, as far as they're concerned! And when you're hungry, you're hungry! So, up we had to get, one hour earlier according to our clocks, but definitely not according to 150+ hungry cats!

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to wintertime at Kalithea Cats!

Every day, we meet amazing people who care about us and our cats and kittens. Again, we have had so many visitors, and we are overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters who are helping us with donations for the necessary repairs and renovations after the storm.

No, I will not show you the progress just yet! We will make a special before-and-after post when everything is finished. So, if you haven't donated yet and would still like to help, please do! And if you could share our GoFundMe link, that would be very much appreciated. We haven't reached our goal yet, and remember, the target was only an estimate of what we really need. Every little bit helps!

A little look at the kindness around us; Margaret and Gaby donated, we recieved a bag full of stuffed toys, Tonia and Mike donated food, another lovely couple from the UK brought us special food and cleaning products. Klaus, who made our feeding station, donated a lot of dry food. Super Klaus! A nice couple of the Netherlands donated and will be flightpartner for Silver.

We received a kind offer from the Blue Horizon Hotel in Ialyssos to collect linen, blankets and towels after the hotel closes for the season. What a wonderful way to give these items a second life!

Mike also has a lot of cushions that his beloved Lorraine collected, and he has offered them to us if we can use them. Thank you, Mike!

Judith, Iwan, Chanea and Sienna brought a little thank-you to all our volunteers. So sweet of them, and they also donated!

John Pierce donated lovely glass charms in the shape of a cat, and he will send more. He visited us also this week.

Keith Tomlin has been saving his coins for us and arrived with a vase full of them, plus another donation. Just imagine how those little coins add up!

And a lovely game was donated by a mother and son from Germany. Thank you all so much!

And then there are the cats; another five slightly bigger kittens arrived and are now in the Swedish cage. Meet Alice, Iris, Sally, Björn and Torben!

We also received a tiny turtle kitten who was found next to her dead mother. She is now in the dog crate with our other little lonely kitten. These tiny souls need so much care. A little cat, in bad condition, was found at Jordan' beach, straight to the vet with him where he got first aid. And then another five cats were brought to us by a boy who must return to Italy.

Sometimes, you really do find yourself with your back against the wall. There are so many cats who need care and are looking for shelter. But please remember: WE ARE NOT A SHELTER!

So to add it up, 7 free cats left this week but 16 in and they have to go in cages and need all the necessary treatments, will it ever stop and give us a bit of rest to relax and give attention to all the other cats we have?

Some news from our furry patients; Queenie came back from the vet.
Fester has had surgery and will go to Melina to stay with her. His leg has not been amputated, and he will receive painkillers if necessary. Poor boy, he really has had more than his fair share of bad luck. He lost an eye, had an accident and broke a leg. The leg was operated on, but the bone shifted and healed incorrectly. And now he has undergone surgery for a tear in his diaphragm, which had caused his intestines to press against his lungs. Fester, you really deserve some peace and quiet now, little man!

Several other cats also went to and returned from the vet for examinations and treatment. There is always someone who needs a little extra help.

Olivia, our dear, sweet Olivia, went to stay with Astrid because she wasn't feeling very well and needs some extra care before leaving for her new home. We are keeping our fingers crossed for her.

Sadly, Arielle has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 She was suffering from liver and kidney failure. Arielle was one of the three little ones we called our Disney princesses. Fly free, sweet girl. You will not be forgotten.

Off to their forever homes! There is also good news, of course!
Silver, now with her new name Louki, has left for her forever home. Nacho went to Germany, and Caliope has also been adopted and left for her new home.

Cosmo, Onyx, Hamilton and Pocahontas have also left us for their new adventures!
We wish every one of them a happy life filled with love, safety, cuddles and, of course, plenty of treats.

And talking about going home, we urgently need flight partners for cats travelling to Italy, Basel, Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam and various destinations in Germany. If you are travelling to any of these destinations and could help one of our cats reach their new family, please get in touch with us!

A few lovely moments to share; our lovely Helen came over again to help us for a few days. She also brought toys donated by Lucas, son of her friend Cloe. Also a donation from another friend of her, Margaret. And, as always, it is such a pleasure to see her. Her dedication to Kalithea Cats is enormous, and we are so grateful to have her around.

Poeffie says hello! And just look at her now, best friends with Amy the dog. Who says cats and dogs can't be friends? And look at Harry Potter, the white cat! 😂 His family sends their greetings and a donation. Thank you! Kalithea, who found her new home in Finland, has grown quite a bit and has turned into such a sweetheart, writes Dayan. It is always lovely to receive updates from our adopted cats.

Frank celebrated his birthday! Frank is a great help to us, and he absolutely loves Miss B. And guess what? Miss B loves him right back! Some friendships are simply meant to be.

And one more little story; it is amazing how cats who go missing can sometimes be found even after a very long time. Donald (no, not one of ours!) was the subject of a call for help when someone was desperately searching for him. Almost FOUR months later, he was found in another village! Never give up hope. Sometimes, miracles take a little longer to happen.

Brigitte Radl and her dreamteam Angelika, Silke, Filippa, Andreas, Alexandra, Alexia and Christos, packed the compound in plastic, protection against wind and rain. What a terrific work they did!

THANK YOU, EVERYONE, for every donation, every bag of food, every blanket, every helping hand, every adoption and every kind word. We couldn't do this without you. And with so many cats still needing our help, we certainly won't be running out of work anytime soon!

Lots of love from all of us at Kalithea Cats. ❤️🐾

Brigitte Radl and Cat's Club Rhodes has done it again!
Another wonderful package has arrived at Kalithea Cats, packed with towels, food, cups for our upcoming Bingo, treats for us volunteers (yes, we get spoiled too! 😋), and supplies to help us get KC ready for winter. Also a batch kitten food from Eva Chaloupka.
A huge thank you to both of you for thinking of our cats and everyone who cares for them!

18th of OCTOBER, what a difficult week it has been!

The terrible weather caused a lot of damage on our island and, sadly, even claimed a human life. Something nobody should ever have to experience.

Kalithea Cats was not spared either. We had not yet managed to make everything waterproof, and although the team did their very best the day before to take as many precautions as possible, it was still a terrible day for our cats and kittens.
Torrential rain, strong winds and, above all, thunderstorms made life very difficult for them. Everything was wet, the cages were soaked, and the roof of the kitten kindergarten was leaking. The team couldn't get to KC at the usual time, but thankfully, three fearless volunteers eventually put on their brave faces and ventured out in the late afternoon to feed the cats.

We already knew that a lot of work needed to be done, but now it has become even clearer just how urgently it is needed. And let's be honest: unfortunately, we simply don't have the financial resources to do everything that is necessary.
Would you like to help us make Kalithea Cats a safer and more comfortable place for our cats? Even a small donation through our GoFundMe would make a difference. Every little bit helps!

MORE LITTLE ONES IN NEED; once again, six kittens were rescued from the mud and taken in. They are suffering from coronavirus and Giardia. Another little cat, covered in mud and with wounds all over its body, arrived in a terrible condition. We rushed it straight to the vet, but sadly, despite our efforts, it was not meant to be. This little soul crossed the rainbow bridge.🌈

And then, even though we have absolutely no space left, we received an emergency call from another volunteer. What can you do? We shuffle things around, make room where there is none, and hope for the best. These five little ones had also been found on the streets and had not yet received any treatment.

And Saturday team found another batch of kittens, making a total this week of fifteen! Fifteen hungry mouths that need special food, Fifteen that need medical care and vaccinations, and believe me you can be sure that this is nowhere near the end.

The good news is that some of our cats have left for their furrever homes this week. And that makes us very happy! Winter is approaching, the tourist season is coming to an end, and naturally, adoptions will become less frequent too. Our cats will also miss all those little treats brought along by visitors who love to spoil them. Because of the storm, not all departures went as smoothly as planned, but off they went! Vanta and Scarlet, Jessy, Koi, Pearl, Sonja, Lucy and Willow.

And there's more good news: Olivia has finally been adopted too! She will be travelling to the Netherlands in November. We are so happy for her!

Greetings from Socky and Panos. And from Guus happy in their new home.

WONDERFUL DONORS AND HELPING HANDS, despite the terrible weather, there was plenty of kindness and generosity this week.

A lovely Canadian couple, who couldn't stay for long, donated cat-shaped bookmarks in memory of their beloved 15-year-old cat, who recently passed away. Such a thoughtful way to remember their furry friend.

Ilona and Alice brought us a whole load of cushions, fleece blankets, toys and so much more, and Alice adopted one of our cats at the last minute.

Brigitte Radl sent another wonderful parcel filled with blankets, mats, treats for our cats and much more. She also brought supplies to help us cover and protect KC with plastic sheeting. And next week, she will be here in person to roll up her sleeves and get to work again, just as she has done in previous years. We are so grateful for her continued support!

Andrea and Uwe arrived with lots of goodies, including a playpen, blankets, little presents and dry food. They even brought treats for us! And, of course, there was plenty of cuddling with the little ones.

Christian and Heike donated several bags of food. They also have one of our former residents as part of their family, which makes their support extra special.

Another German couple, who have been visiting us for years, brought food and donated. Patricia brought food, and our Kalithea Cats friends from Austria and Finland also contributed food and supplies. Jutta added a donation to our collection box. Young people even recycled our damaged scratching tree. We love seeing things given a second life!

Emma and Jack brought us a scratching post and a little cat house. It didn't take long before our permanent residents claimed their new possessions!

Sarah and a lady from Evita Resort in Faliraki also donated to help cover our expenses. This is one of the hotels that actively helps the cats, especially during the winter months. Melina told us that there are around 100 cats in the area that they help to care for. A big thank you to everyone involved!

And, of course, our thanks go to all the other people who brought food, supplies and donations. Every contribution helps us keep going.

HANDS ON DECK! We have had some extra helping hands this week, which is particularly welcome with so much work waiting to be done. Marco come the next few days to help out. Emma and Chris have also been lending a hand, and Dr Volker came by too. He immediately examined the little kittens who had just arrived.

LITTLE PAWS, BIG SURGERY; Daniel has undergone surgery, as sadly his leg had to be amputated. Oh, little one. We can only hope that he will recover well and learn to manage with three legs. Cats are remarkably resilient, and we will do everything we can to help him. And Fester is scheduled for surgery on Monday. He has a large mass in his abdomen. For now, his leg will remain as it is, and he will receive pain relief if needed. We are keeping our fingers crossed for both of them.

LOOKING AHEAD; this week has once again shown us how vulnerable our cats are when the weather turns against them. We can do our best to protect them, but without proper shelter, a sound roof and dry, safe spaces, we are always fighting the same battle. The plans we had to improve the facilities at Kalithea Cats have gotten priority now. It’s clear we can’t postpone them anymore as winter is just at its beginning.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us, in whatever way you can. ❤️
Until next week!

WE ARE DEEPLY TOUCHED BY YOUR KINDNESS!

After the terrible storm that hit Rhodes, we have been overwhelmed by the many loving messages and words of concern we received from all over the world, also on Instagram and TikTok. Knowing that so many of you were thinking of us and our cats means so much to us! Our cats have survived and we have taken in many more kittens that got lost..

We are equally grateful and touched by everyone who has already supported us financially through bank transfers and PayPal. Every message, every donation and every gesture of kindness gives us hope and reminds us that we are not alone.

But the problems we face are that we have to make it weather proof and for that we would like to ask your support as well. Ilonka has started a fundraising for Kalithea Cats to realize this.

Every donation, however small, helps us take another step towards a safer and drier environment for our cats.

🐾 Please help us make it happen!

My name is Lazarina.

When I was very small, someone took me away from my mom and abandoned me on the street. I went hungry for days until I found myself in front of a doorway!

A lady found me, took me into her home, and cared for me.

However, there are two other cats living in the house who don't want me there. Now I am three and a half months old and looking for a family to love and look after me.

I’m sending you my photo so you can see what I look like.

With love, Lazarina!
