🎙️ Invited Speaker | BotryScleroMoni 2025

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Rita Milvia De Miccolis Angelini, Professor of Plant Pathology at the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Science of the University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy), will participate in BotryScleroMoni 2025 as an invited speaker.
Prof. De Miccolis Angelini has extensive research experience in the molecular characterization of plant pathogens, classical and molecular genetics of filamentous fungi, and the development of sustainable strategies for plant and food protection. Her work includes the use of natural compounds, biological control agents, new physical control methods, and plant resistance inducers. A significant part of her research focuses on the issue of acquired resistance to fungicides in Botrytis cinerea, exploring its genetic and molecular foundations.
She is also highly skilled in the de novo assembly of fungal and mycovirus genomes using next-generation and third-generation sequencing technologies, as well as in transcriptome analysis of plant-pathogen interactions. Her studies provide critical insights into the regulatory mechanisms of biological processes in phytopathogenic fungi, with particular emphasis on Monilinia species.

With close to 25 years of experience in plant biotechnology and food security, Professor Belmonte has made groundbreaking contributions that hold the promise of solving world food shortages while significantly strengthening Canada’s agricultural economy. His pioneering research leverages cutting-edge next-generation genomics technologies to enhance plant performance, benefiting both theoretical biology and practical agricultural applications.

A recognized international leader in plant science, Prof. Belmonte has authored over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, 8 invited review articles, 3 book chapters, and holds 2 patents. His work has been published in prestigious, high-impact journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), The Plant Cell, and Plant Journal. His research on RNA interference-based disease control, plant immunity, and drought resistance continues to shape global advancements in sustainable agriculture.
Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Belmonte has been invited to present over 100 times at regional, national, and international meetings, reflecting his profound impact on the scientific community. His recent publications highlight innovative strategies for combating plant pathogens such as Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea, addressing some of the most pressing challenges in global crop protection.

It is our pleasure and honor to inform you that the International Symposium on Plant Pathogenic Sclerotiniaceae (BotryScleroMoni 2025) will be held at Thessaloniki, Greece from May 25-30, 2025.

🏛 BotryScleroMoni 2025 is an international symposium that, for first time, brings together the scientific communities working in Botrytis, Sclerotinia and Monilinia research.

🎉 After a successful BotrySclero Symposium held in Avignon, France during 2022, and a series of several previously organized International Botrytis Symposiums, BotryScleroMoni 2025 will be a joint Symposium including “ΧΙΧ International Botrytis Symposium”, “XVII International Sclerotinia Workshop” and “II International Monilinia Workshop”.

🌍 We expect 200+ participants who are interested in plant pathogenic Sclerotiniaceae in various fields worldwide. This is a good opportunity to share scientific ideas and recent findings under the theme of this symposium.

🗺 The venue and time of the symposium are set for the best season to enjoy the fusion of an ancient and modern city such as Thessaloniki, the Greece's second major economic, commercial and cultural center.

On behalf of the organizing and scientific committee we warmly invite you to join us, in the International Symposium on Plant Pathogenic Sclerotiniaceae, BotryScleroMoni 2025, a joint symposium including “ΧΙΧ International Botrytis Symposium”, “XVII International Sclerotinia Workshop” and the “II International Monilinia Workshop”.

The symposium will be organized in Thessaloniki from 25 to 30 May 2025, by the Laboratory of Plant Pathology, Department of Agriculture, under the patronage of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
