The weekly sewing Open House in CASA BASE offers the women the opportunity to make beautiful new clothes for themselves and their families, or to alter second-hand clothes under the guidance of the experienced instructor Sonia Savoulidou.
The regular clothing distributions at CASA BASE are important and provide many families with necessary clothes. But the clothes they create themselves from beautiful fabrics fill the women with pride and joy.
This in the precarious situation living in a refugee camp without adequate basic provisions and without cash assistance.

🍕🍅🌶️Kids Organising and enjoying a Pizza Party in CASA BASE🫑🧅
The kids were full of joy and enthusiasm as they prepared and created their pizzas. They were involved in every step of the process from cutting the vegetables to rolling out and decorating the pizza dough and waiting in front of the oven... And then there was the pride they felt at what they’d achieved, and the pleasure of another Shared Meal for All out in the CASA BASE yard.
🍅Thanks to the NAOMI Team with Maria Eleftheriadou and 7 volunteers !🍕

A medical kids workshop with four different topics: basic vital signs, oral hygiene, hand disinfection and wound management. The report of our volunteer Noah, student of medicine:
"Therefore I tried to stick to the concept of the Cuddle Bear Hospital in Germany, which was organized to teach children elementary medical skills. In our case it went well, since we were able to motivate some children to participate and to measure eachothers puse for example. This was incredibly awesome, because I experienced the children|s joy and happiness, when they were able to get my blood pressure or my pulse. Furthermore, the children were highly interested into the workshop of taking care of a wound, which resulted in plasted cuddle bears and the learned procedure to disinfect your hands at the beginning. In total, the workshop went well and I hope, that the concept will live a bit longer than my personal stay at Casa Base.
I would be really glad to come here in future to teach more to the children, to the volunteers and also with the other volunteers.»

🎯Moments of the events for NAOMI's 10 Years Anniversary
Exhbition in Βαφοπούλειο Πνευματικό Κέντρο 3-4 June 2026

🍀📷Five photographers from the Φωτογραφική Ομάδα Θεσσαλονίκης-UMBRA Photography Group Thessaloniki-UMBRA generously offered their time, creativity, and talent to document NAOMI's mission. Through their lens, they open our eyes to the light of human rights, they captured not only our work, but also the people, relationships, values that have shaped our community over the past ten years.
✨These photographs tell stories of resilience, creativity, and possibility. They reveal what can happen when people are welcomed into a safe and supportive environment - where they can learn, create, develop new skills, and imagine a future with dignity. They remind us that inclusion is more than participation; it is about creating the conditions for equality, respect, and belonging.
👉At a time when fear and xenophobia too often reduce refugees to stereotypes or political narratives, these images offer something different. They invite us to see humans as they are: individuals with dreams, talents, and the strength to rebuild their lives.
✨🌻The exhibition, NAOMI - Moments of Today, Legacy for the Future, brings together these photographs alongside collaborative artworks from our Zero Waste workshops and selected products from our production unit. Together, they celebrate ten years of creativity, solidarity, and collective action, while reflecting NAOMI's vision of a society where human rights are respected and opportunities are open to everyone.
✨✨The exhibition also shines a light on the people behind NAOMI - our participants, staff, volunteers, and Board members - as well as the spaces where our community comes to life: the Textile Academy🧵🪡👗👖👕👚 , workshops, textile production unit, the office for financing and Casa Base. Each photograph is a testament to the power of community, creativity, and human connection 🌺.
🙏🙏We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the UMBRA photographers for helping us tell this story and preserve these moments for the future.
🍀📷Participating photographers (UMBRA Photography Group, Thessaloniki): Vasilis Karkatselis, Katerina Batziou, Giannis Pomakis, Dimitris Symeonidis, and Niki Karkatseli.
Exhibition Curator: Vasilis Karkatselis, visual artist.

😍Love is contagious, and so is solidarity😍
We saw this for ourselves last week. The appeal for donations of fans really took off. Twenty fans were donated by four people from the city and delivered straight away to our office.
Now they are bringing joy to families with children, who can cope better with the heat in their modest containers. Keep up the good work and protect people… together we can do it…😍thanks to all Thessaloniki donors😍

✨ 10 Years of NAOMI – A Celebration of Creativity, Dignity and Community ✨
📌On 4 June 2026, the NAOMI Ecumenical Workshop for Refugees celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special fashion show at the Vafopouleio Cultural Center of Thessaloniki. It was a remarkable moment of this day events highlighting the work of NAOMI’s products ♻️ and Textile Academy’s participants’ creations.
👉The fashion show was designed, planned and coordinated by Fofi Papadopoulou Fofi Bud, Sonia Savoulidou and Alexis Vrahnos members of Production Department’s staff.
👉Our educators Eleni Iosifidou (advanced and Specialists) , Sofia Kazantzidou (professional training) and Sonia Savoulidou instructor of the OPEN HOUSE cooperated with the organizing team and coordinated the students and trainees who participated with their creations in the fashion show.
👉The photographs below capture original creations designed and crafted by participants of the Textile Academy, representing the Advanced, Specialists, OPEN HOUSE, and Professional Training classes.
🙏We cordially thank Vasilis Karkatselis, Ioannis Pomakis and Katerina Mpatziou who took the photos during the fashion show

💓The Textile Academy is much more than a place to learn sewing and design. It is a space where creativity becomes a path to empowerment, where skills open new opportunities, and where people from diverse backgrounds come together to create, learn, and grow with confidence and mutual respect.

✨Making the evening even more meaningful, the garments were presented mostly by volunteers and supporters of NAOMI and some of them by the creators themselves. Together, they transformed the runway into a celebration of inclusion, collaboration, and the beauty of a community walking forward as one.

🙏Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey!

🙏Special thanks to our donors Otto per Mille Valdese

There was great surprise and joy at the parcels of clothes from the Hamburger Hilfskonvoi. IHA volunteers came und brought them to CASA BASE. Our women carried them in, sorted them and arranged them on the shelves. And then in the evening there was a fantastic fashion show in the garden with the women modelling the new and truly beautiful clothes.
You brought us not only clothes, but also joy, creativity and a sense of community. Watch the videos and let the joy and sense of community inspire you.

Thanks to the CASA BASE TEAM und to for the videos and fotos😍
