It is with profound sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Christos Sarantopoulos, who served as Honorary Consul of Italy in Thessaloniki for twenty-two years.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:30, at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
In lieu of wreaths, the family kindly requests that those who wish honor his memory with a donation made in his name to SOS Children’s Villages, Filyro.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Northern Greece (today the Deputy Ministry of the Interior, responsible for issues concerning Macedonia and Thrace).

The Ministry is located in the Thessaloniki Administration Building, an imposing neoclassical building, which was built around 1891-1892 by Italian architect Vitaliano Poselli to house the headquarters of the Vali of Thessaloniki (Konaki). It was built on top of the ruins of the Byzantine imperial palace and originally had three floors. The fourth floor, in neoclassical architecture, was added in 1955.

It survived intact from the great fire of Thessaloniki in 1917 and is one of the few buildings of that era that have been preserved in the city center, symbolizing its long historical continuity.
Today it serves as the city's administrative center and historical symbol.

Welcome to the Thessaloniki Consular Corps page!

We are the Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls of 57 countries: 13 career Consul Generals and 44 Honorary Consuls.

A consul is an official representative of the government of one state in the territory of another, normally acting to assist and protect the citizens of the consul's own country, and to facilitate trade and friendship between the people of the two countries.

All of us are appointed by the country we represent and accepted to represent them by the Greek government.

Career Consul Generals are full time diplomats sent from the home country, while Honorary Consuls are permanent residents or citizens residing in Greece.
