The pine trees come all the way down to the sand here. 💙
That's the first thing you notice at Paradise Beach on the east coast of Thassos. Shade on one side, shallow turquoise water on the other, about ten steps in between.

September takes the edge off. The sea is still holding August's warmth. The sand starts emptying out by five.

You'll stay later than you planned, and you'll blame the light. 🌊

Summer here is measured in long tables and slow noons. 🍲🙌

The light softens over the water. The villages fill with the sound of company. Somewhere between the first plate and the last glass, time loosens its grip, and the noon stretches out the way island noons are meant to.

One last taste of a Thassos August. Stay a while.

There's a version of Thassos you only meet by boat. The coastline opens up slowly, cove after cove, water shifting from deep blue to something closer to glass. You cut the engine and for a minute there's nothing but the sound of water against the hull and the sun on your shoulders. 🌞🚤

There's a spot in the south of Thassos that photos never quite do justice. Giola, the Tear of Aphrodite, a pool the rock holds and the sea keeps topping up. You have to stand at the edge to get it. 🌊💙

Two bays that face different directions. A sanctuary dedicated to Apollo carved into the rocks on the eastern coast. Marble blocks visible just beneath the surface of the sea. Alyki is the kind of place you think you're just going to for a swim, and then you stay for three hours without noticing. 💙🌊
