Our mission is to actively regenerate ecosystems where people create and maintain healthy and abundant livelihoods, focusing on areas

such as permaculture, agroforestry, regenerative farming, non-violent communication, natural building, healthy nutrition and movement, deep nature connection,organizational management and circular economy. We are located in the South of the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece, surrounded by a predominantly agricultural landscape. Our farm has been farmed in a soil-regenerative way for over 35 years while it transitioned to agroforestry 8 years ago, making it the perfect place to research, learn, and experiment with regenerative farming practices. Our land is also home to our social business, Silver Leaf, which supports local organic farmers. We offer a range of educational resources and support, including workshops and training sessions. We believe that by empowering people with the tools and knowledge they need, we can create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. (EN👇) Στο πλαίσιο της Πρωτοβουλίας για τη Λακωνία (🔗thelos.gr), πραγματοποιήσαμε μια ξεχωριστή ημερήσια δράση στο Καστόρι Λακωνίας, μαζί με φοιτητές και καθηγητές από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Plymouth!

☀️ Η μέρα μας ήταν αφιερωμένη στο φυσικό περιβάλλον της περιοχής, στο Μαρμαρογέφυρο και στον ποταμό Κάστορα, παραπόταμο του Ευρώτα, όπου προχωρήσαμε στον καθαρισμό πλατανιών από τον κισσό, ο οποίος απειλούσε τη βιωσιμότητά τους.

💁 Μαζί μας βρισκόταν και ο Λεωνίδας Βαρδάκας, ιχθυολόγος γλυκών υδάτων με περισσότερα από 15 χρόνια επαγγελματικής εμπειρίας στην υδάτινη οικολογία και τη περιβαλλοντική διατήρηση. Μιλήσαμε για τον Ευρώτα ποταμό, τα μοναδικά είδη ψαριών της περιοχής και την κατάσταση γύρω από το φράγμα του Καστορείου, που αποτελεί εστία βιοποικιλότητας κοντά στη συμβολή τριών ποταμών.

👉 Μέσα από τη βιωματική μάθηση, η γνώση συνδέεται με τη δράση. Έτσι, τα χωριά μας παίρνουν την φροντίδα που τους αξίζει και οι φοιτητές αποκτούν εμπειρία και εργαλεία για το μέλλον, με όραμα μια κοινότητα ενεργών πολιτών, που φροντίζει και συνδημιουργεί το βιοτικό της περιβάλλον.

As part of the Laconia Initiative (🔗thelos.gr), we carried out a unique one-day field activity in Kastori, Laconia, together with students and faculty from University of Plymouth.

☀️ Our day focused on the natural environment of the area, on Marmarogefyro and the Kastoras River, a tributary of the Evrotas, where we worked on clearing ivy from plane trees, which was threatening their long-term health.

💁 With us was Louis Vardakas, a Freshwater Fish Ecologist with over 15 years of professional experience in aquatic ecology and nature conservation. We discussed about Evrotas river, its unique fish species and the situation surrounding the Kastorion barrier, located in a biodiversity hotspot near the confluence of three rivers.

👉 Through experiential learning, knowledge connects with field action. In this way, our villages receive the care they deserve, while students gain experience and tools for the future, envisioning a community of active citizens who care for and co-create their living environment!

Μέσω του προγράμματος MAPPING, δημιουργούμε έναν διαδικτυακό χάρτη ανοιχτού κώδικα που θα περιλαμβάνει πρωτοβουλίες αγροδασοπονίας που ακολουθούν αγροοικολογικές πρακτικές σε ολόκληρη τη Μεσογειακή λεκάνη.

(EN👇) 🌱 Τι θα γινόταν αν το μέλλον της γεωργίας βρισκόταν στο αρχαίο έδαφος;

🍄 Το Terra Preta είναι ένα εξαιρετικά γόνιμο έδαφος από τον Αμαζόνιο. Δημιουργήθηκε αρχικά από αυτόχθονες πληθυσμούς πριν από χιλιάδες χρόνια με συγκεκριμένη τεχνική και μπορεί να μειώσει τη χρήση λιπασμάτων και να βελτιώσει τη συγκράτηση του νερού. Σήμερα χρησιμοποιώντας την τεχνική αυτή μπορούμε να το δημιουργήσουμε κι εμείς!

Την περασμένη Τετάρτη, στο αγρόκτημα του Southern Lights, μαζί με τους συνεργάτες μας από το Terra Preta (Γερμανία), εξερευνήσαμε θεωρητικά και πρακτικά πώς το Terra Preta λειτουργεί και πώς συμβάλλει στην ανθεκτικότητα των αγροκτημάτων. Εξετάσαμε παραγωγή σε μικρή κλίμακα με κλίβανο πυρόλυσης, ενώ η ζεστή σούπα που μαγειρέψαμε εκεί έφερε κοντά ανθρώπους και ιδέες. Ταυτόχρονα, παράξαμε βιοάνθρακα σε επίπεδο αγροκτήματος, ανοίγοντας ένα λάκκο στο έδαφος για μεγαλύτερες ποσότητες. Στη συνέχεια προσθέσαμε χόρτο, πετρόσκονη και υπολείμματα από την κουζίνα μας, αφήνοντάς το να ζυμωθεί. Σε τρεις μήνες, το Terra Preta θα είναι έτοιμο.

👉 Εφαρμόζεται παντού: σε κήπο, χωράφι ή μπαλκόνι.
Αυτή ήταν μόλις η πρώτη εκδήλωση στο πλαίσιο της συνεργασίας, οπότε μείνετε συντονισμένοι για περισσότερα.

🌿 Αυτή η εκπαίδευση αποτελεί μέρος του έργου Erasmus+: «Terra Preta: Train the trainers».

🌱 What if the future of farming lies in ancient soil?

🍄 Terra Preta, the fertile black soil created by Indigenous communities in the Amazon, is more relevant than ever. It can help reduce fertilizers and improve water retention.

Last Wednesday at Southern Lights farm, we explored Terra Preta with our partners from the Terra Preta Association in Germany, both in theory and practice. We produced biochar at two scales: small-scale using a pyrolysis kiln, and farm-scale using a soil pit for larger quantities. Alongside the process, a warm soup brought people and ideas together. We then combined the biochar with green grass, rock dust, and kitchen scraps, leaving it to ferment. In three months, the Terra Preta will be ready.

👉 It can be applied anywhere: garden, field, or even balcony.

This was only the first event of this partnership, so stay tuned for more.

Το 2025 ήταν μια χρονιά γεμάτη καλλιέργεια ουσιαστικών σχέσεων με διαφορετικούς φορείς του αναγεννητικού κινήματος!🍃

Τους τελευταίους μήνες συμμετείχαμε σε εκδηλώσεις, παρουσιάζοντας το έργο του Regenerative Farming Greece, ενισχύοντας τη φωνή των αγροτών και συμβάλλοντας σε συν-δημιουργικές διαδικασίες που προωθούν το αναγεννητικό κίνημα στην Ελλάδα και πέρα από αυτήν.

Σε εκδηλώσεις με πιο ακαδημαϊκό χαρακτήρα, όπως το στη Θεσσαλονίκη και το , μοιραστήκαμε τις προκλήσεις των αγροτών στην υιοθέτηση αναγεννητικών πρακτικών και πώς οι παρόντες, όπως ερευνητές και υπεύθυνοι χάραξης πολιτικής, μπορούν να τους στηρίξουν.

🐚Σε άλλες εκδηλώσεις, όπως η Οικολογική Γιορτή Καρδίτσας και η συνάντηση Slow Food International Farms στο Thechillifactor, είχαμε τη χαρά να συνδεθούμε με ανθρώπους που υλοποιούν παρόμοιες προσπάθειες στην Ελλάδα και να διερευνήσουμε δρόμους συνεργασίας και αμοιβαίας υποστήριξης.

Το 2025 έκλεισε με τον καλύτερο τρόπο, με ανανεωμένο κίνητρο μετά τη συνάντηση των αγροτών του από όλη την Ευρώπη. Είναι ιδιαίτερα ενθαρρυντικό να βλέπουμε περισσότερους Έλληνες αγρότες, όπως τον Χρήστο Κοντομάνο από το Cob - Building with Earth, να συμμετέχουν.🤝

2025 was a year full of nurturing meaningful relationships with diverse actors in the regenerative movement.🍃

In recent months, we shared ’s work, amplified farmers’ voices, and joined co-creation processes advancing the regenerative movement.

In academic-focused events, such as the conference and the , we shared farmers’ challenges adopting regenerative practices and how members present, like researchers and policymakers, can support them.

🐚In other events, such as Eco Festival in Karditsa and the Slow Food Farms event hosted by The Cilli Factor farm, we had the pleasure of connecting with others carrying out similar efforts in Greece and exploring bridges for mutual support.

2025 ended in the best possible way, with renewed motivation after gathering with 's farmers from across Europe. It’s great to see more Greek farmers, like Christos Kontomanos from , joining in.🤝

Το , ένα από τα πολύ γνωστά περιοδικά της χώρας μας, έθεσε αυτό το ερώτημα σε πέντε γυναίκες από διαφορετικές γωνιές της αγροτικής Ελλάδας.🌾

Η διευθύντριά μας και αγρότισσα, Sheila Darmos, φιλοξενείται στο τεύχος Μαρτίου, μοιράζεται όχι μόνο την προσωπική της εμπειρία, αλλά αξιοποιεί την ευκαιρία να ενημερώσει ένα ευρύτερο κοινό για την αγροδασοπονία και την αναγεννητική γεωργία, φωτίζοντας παράλληλα τα υπάρχοντα νομικά εμπόδια που δυσκολεύουν τους μικρούς παραγωγούς να υιοθετήσουν τέτοιες πρακτικές στην Ελλάδα.

How does it feel to lead a rural livelihood in Greece?

, a national Greek magazine, took this question to 5 women across the rural landscape. 🌾

Our director and farmer, Sheila Darmos, was featured in this March edition, sharing not only about her personal experience, but also taking the opportunity to inform a diverse audience about agroforestry and regenerative agriculture, shedding light on the current legal restrictions that make it difficult for small farmers to take on such practices in Greece.

How can we support the uprising of other bioregions in Greece?🧱

That is what we were co-defining recently in France with the Bioregional Weaving Lab team.
🕸We are excited to see the actual positive effects that the mindset and practice of “bioregioning” has on rural development through our work with the LO initiative ( Bioregional Weaving Lab) and are eager to set the strategy into action for a multiplication path across Greece.

It’s always a pleasure to revisit our dear friends, , the host of this meeting, with whom it is a great pleasure to exchange insights on innovative, people- and context-based strategies for rural development.

A new collaboration has started!!

At Regenerative Farming Greece, we see agroforestry as a major tool for land regeneration and a feasible entry-point for farm transition.

🗺️For the next 2.5 years, The Southern Lights is part of a consortium of 6 Mediterranean partners joining forces to increase visibility, know-how and feasibility of agroforestry practices across the Mediterranean region.

We look forward to sharing with you all of the activities, workshops and learning tools that will come out as the project unfolds!

🌟Proud and excited to be part of the “Mapping” project, a new collaboration focused on agroecology and agroforestry practices!
