OUR STORY
THE EGG
Liveloula was born out of two people's dream to step out of the stressful western city life and root back into nature, in simplicity living a new life with a much reduced impact on their environment, in tune with nature and its rhythm. For almost 8 years now Chenny and Steven have been steadily realising that dream, turning an abandoned field, where the soils had been almost co
mpletely destroyed by overgrazing, into a wonderful labyrinth of permaculture gardens and a food forest. With the help of a constant stream of volunteers, friends and family, a homestead was built, a haven for both wild and domesticated animals, soils have been restored, spaces to relax and discover nature have been installed and an abundance of delicious, healthy food grown. We see this first stage in the project as our Liveloula's larval state, were we have taken our time to learn and grow strong. We have gone through this period constantly researching, building new experiences, receiving feedback from both people and the rest of our surrounding nature, making mistakes, correcting them. Liveloula has spent 2020, like most people worldwide, cocooning, in deep reflection of itself, preparing for the next chapter in its life, building wings. Spreading our wings
The first chapter of the dream realised, and inspired by visitors and neighbouring projects, Liveloula, at the start of 2021 is ready to break out of its cocoon, dry its brand new wings in the winds of (global) change, carefully preparing for its first flight. We are located in the northern Peloponnese just outside the village Seliana. The valley where Liveloula is situated is rich in water, diverse in vegetation, it’s so beautiful. Two sides of this plot are bordered by forest and the other sides are (abandoned) orchards. For the community to further develop, Liveloula aims to grow in space to. This we’d like to achieve by means of purchasing land partly to allow the return of wilderness, partly to restore old orchards, stimulating the biologic fruit production in this valley. Liveloula is off grid. Power is generated with photovoltaics and there are plans to build a hydro-electric system powered by a river nearby. Our drinking water comes from a spring and irrigation water is tapped from a stream higher up in the forest. Last year the first natural building was finished and this year we’ll start building the second one. ALL of the vegetables we ate last year were organic and home grown. Liveloula aims to become a non-profit organisation to support it’s activities. Profits will be spent to support growth, local initiatives focusing on the preservation of nature, the production of low impact, quality foods and the information and sensibilisation of both the local community and visitors on the subject of low impact living, self sustainability, community networking and general health. To achieve this income , Liveloula aims primarily at becoming the main vegetable supplier for our friends and neighbors at Re-Green. Re-green hosts beautiful seminars and workshops for groups sometimes over 30 people. Our dream is to provide quality organically grown food for groups this big and for ourselves. Our all natural way of farming shuns mechanical devices, therefore farming becomes a fun and dynamic hands on experience for big groups of people. Did we mention working the soil is healthy for body and mind? Second, Liveloula will be offering a broad set of quality products ranging from home pharmacy to jewelry to homegrown organic foods. So far, Liveloula has been privately funded, yet to make a good start, we are hoping for your support. Small and bigger donations can be made to help us further install a good infrastructure. With a better infrastructure we hope to be able to host more volunteers for a longer period of time or attract new residents, allowing Liveloula to make a bigger impact.
