The days have flown by! We had some 'Red Alert' storms passing in Greece, which also crossed Samos.

That meant ofcourse strong winds, rain, thunder and all that jazz.

Now the weather is better but clearly its much colder and the animals feel it too. Cats try to find high and warm places to sleep, and the dogs as well, nobody wants the floor anymore.

We made a call to action recently, to gather donations for food. Unfortunately, it didnt do as well as we had hoped. But, we cant complain, we are very grateful for all who donated ❤️

A few days ago, we asked for help with something very simple:

Food.

We asked because the dogs are eating through our supplies faster than we can replace them, as they are more active now and burn more energy.

We hoped that if many people could spare just a few euros, those small donations would come together and make a real difference. €2 becomes €20, €20 becomes €100, and suddenly there is another sack of food in the storeroom.

But so far, we have received €20.
From one person.
Mej, thank you. ❤️ Truly.

And I have to admit, writing this follow-up is difficult.

Asking for help is never easy. We know everyone has their own bills, their own worries and their own expenses. Schools have started, the month is moving on, and we understand that money can be tight.

But the dogs don't have that understanding.

They don't know it's the end of the month, they don't know that expenses are rising and they don't know that donations have been slow.

We wish we could do this completely on our own. We really do. We work, we take care of the animals, we clean, feed, medicate and give attention every single day. We do everything we can to keep this place going.

But the reality is that there is no government funding for us. No big charity paying our food bills. No organisation behind us with a budget we can turn to when things get difficult.

There is just us, and the people who choose to stand beside us.

That's why we're asking again.

Not because we want to keep asking.
Not because we take anyone's help for granted.
But because the need is still here.

If you can spare €2, €5, €10 — whatever is possible for you — it will go directly towards putting food into those bowls.

And if you can't donate, please share this post. Sometimes the person who can help us is only one share away.

Every share matters.
Every small donation matters.
Every person who helps us keep going matters.

Because at the end of the day, this isn't about a fundraising target.

It's about making sure that tonight, and tomorrow, and the days after that, every one of these animals has enough to eat.

And that is something we cannot do without you ❤️

📢 Call to Action — Autumn means fuller bowls

Yesterday we had our first rain. Nothing dramatic, just a little reminder that summer is slowly giving way to autumn here on Samos.

And with the cooler weather, something else is changing too: the dogs and cats are becoming more active again — which means fuller bowls, and more of them. ❤️

And of course, that includes our two growing puppies, Molly and Masa, who are also waiting for their forever homes.

These two are going to be big dogs, so while they are growing, they need good-quality puppy food suitable for giant breeds. Giving growing puppies the right nutrition now is an important investment in their future health.

🐾 What we have right now:

• 2 sacks of dry food for adult dogs
• 1 sack of dry puppy food
• 1 sack of dry cat food

I have already ordered 3 sacks of cat food and 12 bags of cat litter, so the cats are covered for the moment.

But we still need to order dog food — both for our adults and for the growing puppies.

We don't need to buy the most expensive food available. But we also cannot rely on the cheapest options simply because they cost less. They often don't provide the nutrition the animals need, and can cause digestive problems that ultimately mean more expense — and more importantly, unhappy and unhealthy animals.

So this is our autumn food call. 🐾

If you can contribute towards the next order, any amount helps. It doesn't have to be a large donation to make a difference.

Small streams make a river ❤️

And as always, thank you for being part of the reason these bowls stay full.

And then there were two...

I can honestly say.. that my heart broke a little, when on Thursday we said goodbye to Moira and Milo.

I am so grateful that they get a chance for a new life, Milo in foster and Moira in her new home.. but, especially saying goodbye to Moira was hard.. she was with us since she was just 2 days old..

And from that moment, I was her mom, her and Milla.. 24/7 with them carrying them with me from room to room, feeding.. cleaning.. heart in throat worried for them.
And then we lost Milla.. it broke my heart to see Moira laying next to her dead sister, wondering why she is not waking up anymore.. not playing..

And then the joy when we got Masa and Molly, to be her companions again, so she doesnt grow alone..

It has been a very difficult time, mentally exhausting.. the puppies, we love them, but they are a lot of work, and hardship..

We always say, never again.. but lets see how long we remember that.. because in the end, when you know you save a life, you change their future.. though they destroy you mentally, physically and financially.. I guess its worth it.. atleast we know they are alive, and they have a chance.

Moira and Milo, we miss you, but we know you are happy and loved❤️

Greetings from Sunny Samos!

The summer is still very much on, days are hot, even though we are almost in September.

The puppies are GROWING! They reach everywhere and destruction is their goal it seems as the rascals munch away on our furniture.. never know what is chewed when we go to the livingroom in the morning.

But the good news is that they are happy and healthy, growing strong!

Here are a few pics for you to enjoy, will see if I can take a video or two of their shenanigans for you as well 😉 im sure you enjoy those maybe even more!

The dogs and cats are in general doing all very well, food is the main worry always, especially when we need to purchase giant breed puppy food for the four rascals as well, and im sure we all know, good quality puppy food does not come cheap.

If you can help by donating towards the costs, we are truly grateful.
But sometimes its difficult to donate, financial situation doesnt allow it. Dont worry, you can also share and talk about the dogs and cats, tell their stories and maybe someone else can help by donating. Its also important to share 💗

"Why dont you help?"
"Why do you leave her behind?"
"Take it, we will sponsor you"
"Please take it, keep it as long as I find a home for it."
"You dont really care if you dont help me to take this cat"

How many times we hear these things.. how many times ive cried after ive read these messages or face to face heard this and wondered how would the person cope, doing this themselves.
How many times we've been promised support when we take an animal, only to be forgotten in a couple of weeks..

We feel strongly that everyone who supports us deserves to see what happens here.

We want you to see the faces, the pictures, the silly moments and the happy endings. We want you to know the stories behind the animals you help. Many of you have actually visited us and seen with your own eyes what this work involves — the endless cleaning, feeding, caring, medicating, vet visits, worrying, sleepless nights and all the things that happen behind the scenes.

This work is hard.

It is physically exhausting, mentally exhausting, and sometimes it is simply exhausting for the heart. There are losses we carry with us, animals we couldn't save, and days when it all feels like too much.

But then there are the moments that make everything worth it.

When a frightened animal finally trusts you.
When a sick animal gets better.
When a dog who once knew only fear learns what love feels like.
When you see a little life that was heading in one direction suddenly given the chance to go in another.

Being able to change a life around is one of the most rewarding things there is.

And when you support us, you are part of that change too.

That is why we share the stories.
That is why we show you the good, the bad and everything in between.

Because these animals aren't just numbers or names on a donation list.

They are lives. And together, we are changing their lives for the better. ❤️🐾

Road trip!

Never had we been so well prepared for a trip to the vet with puppies.. towels, kitchen paper, water, plastic bags etc.. and they were perfect! They slept both ways, didnt mind at all being in the car.

The only challenge was in Karlovasi, to carry then from the car to our vet, because it was difficult to find a place to park.

But they behaved so well! Nobody flinched or cried when getting vaccinated and chipped, not even for bloodtests.

When we got back home, they spent a little time outside, while we washed the area and they enjoyed getting wet since it was so very hot.

Then it was time to eat, play and now they are sleeping, it has been an adventure for the fabulous four!

And then… there were four. 🐾❤️

Most of you have followed the story of the cave puppies since the end of May, when a stray mother gave birth in a cave at Golden Sand Beach.

We initially took in the two puppies the mother had discarded — Moira and Milla.

Moira is thriving and growing into a beautiful little girl. Sadly, we lost Milla suddenly some weeks ago. 💔

Of course, Moira grieved. She had lost her sister and suddenly found herself alone, so we decided to bring in two other puppies — Masa and Molly — to keep her company.

Meanwhile, there was a plan for the other three puppies and their mother.

Two of the three remaining puppies were adopted directly, leaving just one little puppy with his mother.

But as time passed, the mother stopped spending much time with him. He became increasingly timid, and with the beach getting busier and busier, it became clear that leaving him there was no longer an option.

So today was the day.

Welcome to the sanctuary, Milo. 🐶❤️

And just like that… there are four again.

Moira, Masa, Molly and Milo.

Four little lives who are now safe, warm, fed and cared for.

There is still a plan for their mother, too. She will be taken in, sterilised and eventually rehomed. We are working together with another fellow animal lover and rescue professional to make that happen.

But one step at a time. ❤️

Tomorrow is another big day. We are taking all four puppies to our vet for their check-ups, and we will update you afterwards and let you know how everything went. I have a feeling it will be quite an exciting day for all of us!

For now, we ask you to keep the puppies — and their mother — in your hearts and minds.

And, if you are able to help us, we would be incredibly grateful. 🙏

Four puppies mean food, vaccinations, deworming, veterinary checks and, inevitably, more medical expenses. And they are not the only ones depending on us.

There are the adult dogs.

And the cats.

And all the everyday food, medication, veterinary care and necessities that keep this sanctuary going.

We receive no government funding. No organisation pays our food bills. No institution covers our veterinary expenses.

It is simply us, and the few wonderful people who choose to stand beside us and support what we do.

Those private donations are not something we take for granted. They are the reason we can keep helping animals who otherwise have nowhere to go.

To everyone who has donated, sent food, helped with veterinary costs, shared our posts, checked in on us, or simply followed these stories and cared about the animals:

Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts. ❤️

You are a part of every rescue we manage to make.

And right now, we need your help again.

If you are able to contribute towards food or medical costs for the puppies, the adults and our cats, every donation — no matter how small — genuinely makes a difference.

Four little puppies are counting on us. And so are all the others already in our care.

Thank you for helping us keep going.
Thank you for caring.
And thank you for being part of their story. ❤️🐾
