📡 The NBS4MED Kick-off Meeting has been successfully held in Kiato, Greece!
The NBS4MED project held its official Kick-off Meeting on the 27th and 28th of January 2026, hosted at the Sikyon’s Municipal Library in Kiato, Greece, in a hybrid format.
🤝 The partners were welcomed by Mr. Konstantinos Syrianos, Deputy Mayor for Culture of the Municipality of Sikyon, and Mr. Aggelos Papaggelopoulos, Regional Councillor and former Mayor of Sikyon.
The meeting gathered representatives from all project partners and marked the official start of the project.
🌳 During the two-day meeting, the partnership reviewed the project’s structure, introduced the key activities, and aligned on the first-year plan.
The agenda included discussions on the project’s governance, financial and reporting procedures, communication and dissemination activities, as well as the planning of the pilot actions on the Nature-Based Solutions’, NBS, implementation.
🎯 The Kick-off Meeting also provided an opportunity for the partners to present their roles and responsibilities, strengthen collaboration across the Mediterranean, and confirm the project's next steps.
The key highlights included a definition of the pilot actions in Spain, Türkiye, Greece, Tunisia, and Egypt.
In addition, the partners visited the site where the Greek pilot action will take place, an urban park in Sikyon, Kiato, that will be transformed into a cooler, greener space for its citizens and visitors. More specifically, a combination of a smart watering system, the reuse of rainwater, and the utilisation of surfaces that absorb water rather than trap heat, will help reduce flooding and high temperatures, while also informing residents about climate challenges and the benefits of NBS.
