We fundraise for The Open Cultural Center to provide cash assistance to refugees to get to vital appointments. Let's change that! Help us Reach Refugees!

Many people can't afford public transport to appointments such as the doctors, lawyers or the asylum service. Help us reach refugees and asylum seekers to get to vital appointments. Reach Refugees are collaborating with an AMAZING charity in Northern Greece, The Open Cultural Center (https://openculturalcenter.org/) to provide cash assistance to the local eligible community. We pay for people to a

ccess vital appointments that include many things we take for granted - going to the hospital, accessing legal aid or speaking to local authorities. Asylum seekers in Greece are entitled to €75 per month - paying for food, heating, medical and hygiene items, wi-fi, clothing, travel etc etc... We can hardly imagine the difficult compromises being made every day. There is also anecdotal evidence that this money is so difficult to access and takes so long to come through that families are often left destitute. Most journeys are only a € 9 bus to the nearest city however, people often have to go to Athens via multiple trains and buses and this can cost much much more. We have also supported a person who's paperwork was never transferred to the mainland and he had to return to the Island of Kos costing over € 300. Help us take away the compromise of accessing vital services and basic necessities. Any help you can offer will have a huge impact on people's lives. We hope to support as many people as possible for as long as we can.

Sadly, we have to cease operations in Greece.

The first thing to say is a huge thank you for all of your support since 2021… We have only been able to support refugees and asylum seekers in Greece access vital appointments like the doctor or hospital appointments and legal aid through your kind donations. We have raised €15,452.00 and distributed to 1,100 people: Thank you!

We regret to inform you that we are struggling to communicate fully with our partners (The Open Cultural Center) who implement our project on the ground in Greece. Some of the money we have raised in 2025 has not yet reached the people we are trying to support and we feel that we can no longer fundraise in good faith without being able to ensure it will reach those who need it.

We would very much like to restart the project but until we can re-establish consistent communication and accountability we will be pausing and working out what to do next. If it becomes clear that there is no way forward, we will have to shut down Reach Refugees which would be very sad but necessary.

It’s World Refugee Week!

Help us celebrate by raising awareness, having hard conversations, learning more and looking past the horrible statistics to the people.

👩‍👧‍👦This year it is more important than ever as asylum seekers use cash cards to pay for food, travel, medicine and more have been stopped. Whilst waiting for the new system of vouchers, refugees have been left with no financial aid since May of this year.

🥰 Our support impacts vulnerable people on the ground, with one beneficiary saying, ‘We have six kids and in winter they get sick often so I feel relieved that Reach Refugees are helping us’.
