Η Ιστιοκύττωση (Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis ή LCH) είναι μια σπάνια νόσος που λειτουργεί όπως ο καρκίνος και κυρίως προσβάλει παιδιά, ενώ σπανιότερα εμφανίζεται σε ενήλικες. Υπολογίζεται ότι η ασθένεια προσβάλει ένα σε κάθε διακόσιες χιλιάδες παιδιά ετησίως. H «Histiocytosis Hellas» δημιουργήθηκε πριν από 28 χρόνια από ασθενείς και τις οικογένειές τους, λόγω της ανάγκης για αλληλοϋποστήριξη και κατανόηση της νόσου. Χωρίς κρατική βοήθεια έχει καταφέρει να πραγματοποιήσει τρία διεθνή ερευνητικά προγράμματα και να βάλει την Ελλάδα στον παγκόσμιο ιατρικό χάρτη. H Histiocytosis Hellas διοργανώνει κάθε χρόνο το ιατρικό συνέδριο “Nikolas Symposium” με ένα και μοναδικό σκοπό: την εύρεση της παθογένεσης της Νόσου και κατ’επέκταση την θεραπεία της.
