WISTA Hellas was proud to participate in the ShipIT Conference, where WISTA Hellas President Vivi Kolliopoulou delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of ensuring that technological advancement and digital transformation go hand in hand with the human element.

As shipping embraces AI, digitalisation and innovation, the industry's future will depend not only on technology, but also on its ability to attract, develop and empower talented people through inclusive and equitable workplaces.

We were also delighted that WISTA Hellas member Elena Matzaridou participated as a moderator in the Fireside Chat, “Managing Change in a Technologically Intrusive Era”, representing our association and contributing her expertise to the discussion on the future of shipping.

Yesterday, WISTA Hellas proudly participated in Greece Race for the Cure, joining our members, their families, and thousands of Athenians in support of a cause that touches so many lives.

Walking and running together reminded us of the strength of community, solidarity, and mutual support, while raising awareness about the importance of breast cancer prevention and early detection.

Because prevention matters. And no one should face life’s challenges alone.

🌊 Preparing the next generation for the maritime transition

On 26 September, the Oceans Intelligence Camp took place in Chios, organized by HELMEPA - Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association as part of the METAVASEA project, bringing together Greek and Italian students for a day of learning, exchange and mentoring.

The program featured a communication skills workshop and a mentoring session exploring blue skills and whether we are ready for the maritime transition. Samantha Lourandou, WISTA Hellas General Secretary and member, took part in the mentoring session, sharing her experience and insights with the students.

This initiative reflects WISTA Hellas' active involvement in METAVASEA and its longstanding commitment to fostering talent, supporting inclusion and empowering the future generation of maritime professionals.

For the 6th consecutive year, the Women in Leadership Executive Program, in collaboration with Alba Graduate Business School, is back this October!

This professional training and upskilling program continues to empower women in leadership roles, combining academic excellence with practical insights and useful tools for professional growth.

Open to both WISTA Hellas members and non-members, the program supports the industry in embedding meritocracy and equal opportunities in day-to-day practice.

This year’s World Maritime Day theme speaks to something we see every day within the WISTA Hellas community.

Our members actively contribute to the conversations shaping the maritime industry, taking part in panels, conferences, working groups and discussions around the policies and priorities that will define its future.

But the conversation does not end there.

They bring these insights back to their organisations, translating new ideas, evolving regulations and different perspectives into decisions, initiatives and everyday practices. Because progress in maritime is not shaped by policy alone. It happens when dialogue is followed by action and ideas find their way into practice.

This World Maritime Day, we celebrate the value of being part of the conversation - and carrying it forward.

Our September Members’ Gathering welcomed the new season with an evening of art, history and connection at the historic Stathatos Mansion, home to the Museum of Cycladic Art.

Guided by the Museum’s experts, members explored selected highlights of the collections and exhibitions, discovering stories of women, their influence and legacy across the centuries, within the unique world of the Cyclades - an island culture shaped by the sea, commerce and exchange.

The evening continued with the exhibition ‘Jeff Koons: Venus Lespugue’, offering a fascinating dialogue between antiquity and contemporary art. As members explored the exhibition in smaller groups, conversations naturally turned to different perspectives, something beautifully captured in a photograph where one group appears reflected on Venus Lespugue. The photos shared here offer glimpses of each group’s experience and of the gathering over cheese and w**e to reconnect and continue the conversation.

A beautiful evening that reminded us of the value of curiosity, culture and the connections we build along the way.

Putting seafarers’ wellbeing at the heart of the conversation, Crew Welfare Week 2026 highlighted the importance of addressing mental health as a key element of a safer and more sustainable maritime industry.

Held on 23–25 June and organized by SAFETY4SEA, the event featured our member and substitute member of our BoD, Sofia Rizou, Director, Client Success & Mental Health at Maritime and Healthcare Group, representing WISTA Hellas in Session #11: “Advancing Mental Wellness Onboard.”

Sofia highlighted that mental wellbeing is a fundamental part of safe and sustainable maritime operations, emphasizing the importance of prevention, early support, and creating onboard environments where seafarers feel safe to seek help.

Her participation reflects WISTA Hellas’ ongoing commitment to championing the human element in shipping and promoting healthier, safer and more inclusive workplaces at sea.
