The Volunteer Association Against Cancer "Agaliazo" of Western Greece, founded in Patras in 2001 in order to inform the general population for the early detection of cancer and to provide psychosocial support to cancer patients. • Α Volunteer Training Program for education of people that are interested in issues related to cancer
• A Program of Early Diagnosis of cancer by conducting information events at (Patra, Kalavrita, Egio, Velo Corinthia, Nafpakto, Sageika, Gastouni, Zacharo etc.) The operation of information kiosks, with the main aim of informing the general public about early detection and demystifying cancer. In addition, each year we carry out information campaigns on the beaches of Achaia, Ilia and Etoloakarnania by informing the swimmers of the dangers of exposure to sunlight and by distributing printed materials and sunscreen samples.
• Α Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program for psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families in a climate of security, trust and privacy.
• An Inpatient Support Program for the moral support of oncological patients in the hospital rooms.
• A Citizens Screening Programme in peripheral regions of Western Greece from a group of doctors consisted by the following specialties: surgeon, pathologist-oncologist, urologist, dermatologist, a pulmonologist and psychiatrist.
• A Training Program in Breast self examination at women with the aim of familiarizing with the breast and fear management of diagnosis.
• A Social Events Program for members and friends of the development of cooperation, trust and friendship.
• A Schools Program in which each year we inform our local schools (over 20 High Schools & High Schools of Patras, 4 schools in Aegio, 3 Kalavryta, in Erymanthia, in Pelopio, in Varda etc.) on Cervical Cancer matrix, Smoking and Lung Cancer, Melanoma and for Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
• A Collection of food and essential items distributed at cancer families in need.
