935 CATS. 39 DOGS. ONE GREEK ISLAND. 💙🐾
We’ve been waiting to share the final results from our Andros neutering project - and this is a big one.

This is now Greek Animal Rescue’s most successful single-island neutering project to date.
When we began, we set ourselves an ambitious target: could we neuter around 1,000 cats on one Greek island?
We chose Andros because it had the ingredients to make large-scale change possible: committed local volunteers, excellent transport links for the veterinary team and strong support from the municipality.
Eight months later, 935 cats have been neutered - 93.5% of that original 1,000-cat ambition - alongside 39 dogs. What followed exceeded even our expectations.
And these numbers matter far beyond the 974 animals themselves.
They mean countless unwanted litters that will never be born into a life on the streets. Fewer animals competing for food. Fewer fights and injuries. Healthier populations. And an impact that will continue long after the last veterinary table has been cleared away.
But perhaps the thing we are proudest of is how it happened.
This is what collaboration can do.
It took an extraordinary number of people working towards the same goal:

You may never have set foot on Andros. You may never meet any of these animals. But if you have donated to GAR, shared our work or supported our neutering programmes, you helped make this happen too.
We are enormously proud of what has been achieved.
Not by one person.
Not by one organisation.
Not by working in isolation.
It happened because rescuers, vets, volunteers, local government, businesses, transport providers, residents and supporters worked together.

And the animals in these photos? All former strays of Andros, now happily homed. 🐾
