The Erasmus Student Network (ESN), together with 16 other signatory organisations from across the European higher education sector, has presented joint proposed amendments to the European Commission’s draft regulation for the next + programme (2028–2034).
Erasmus+ is one of Europe’s most impactful initiatives, empowering learners through mobility, cooperation and a shared sense of belonging across borders. With the next programme now under discussion, we reaffirm the need to keep Erasmus+ ambitious, inclusive and future-oriented.
🔎 As signatories, we call on EU institutions and Member States to prioritise:
🎓 Learning mobility and institutional cooperation as the programme’s core mission
💶 An Erasmus+ budget of at least €60 billion, with greater predictability for the education sector
⚖️ Stronger governance through the reintroduction of the committee procedure
🎯 Scholarship initiatives that bring added value without reducing core mobility opportunities
♾️ Clearer synergies with other EU funding instruments
🛣️ A predictable pathway for the association of the UK and Switzerland
🌍 A reinforced international dimension of Erasmus+
🛟 Enhanced support for students, staff and institutions in crisis situations
As Simone Lepore, President of the Erasmus Student Network, stated:
“At a moment when Europe is setting its long-term priorities, we must invest in people and in the opportunities that education creates. The Erasmus Generation is ready to lead in shaping the future of Europe, but we need a programme that fully reflects our realities and our ambitions. That is why Erasmus+ needs a budget that matches its proven impact and growing responsibilities.”
🤝 Erasmus Student Network stands ready to support policymakers throughout the negotiations and contribute constructively to shaping a programme that continues to deliver for Europe’s talent base and its global role.
