Felíni Stray Cat Project

Felíni Stray Cat Project A small private animal welfare project caring for neighborhood stray and feral cats in Crete. We act small, we think big!😊🙏❤️ Please join us - be the change!

Felíni Stray Cat Project is a small private animal welfare project promoting health care for stray and feral cats in our neighborhood in a Cretan village. Our goal is happy and healthy cats in a clean and healthy environment for people. Additionally, an important part of this project is to spread awareness about stray cats and animals' individual values. We believe that increased knowledge creates

more empathy in society and that this again will benefit both humans and our furry friends. Our hope is also to inspire others to do the same in their neighborhood and in that way, we'll make a change! We like the saying; we might not change the whole world, but the world will certainly change for these individual beings - and to be honest - and less humble 😉- I seriously do believe that little by little - slowly-slowly - sega-sega they say in Greece - we are changing the world together! Felíni Stray Cat Project is not a shelter, but we provide care and vet visits to injured and sick stray and feral cats living in our neighborhood - as much as we can afford. At the moment we are providing care through deworming, preventive parasite treatment, and medical treatment for infections, serious tooth problems, wounds, broken or twisted legs after climbing the rooftops, and other conditions in cooperation with our local veterinarian. We also promote and provide sterilization as much as we can, to avoid many kittens being born to homelessness and suffering. Everything is based on our self-financed and voluntary work, and luckily a few private donations. A bit about us "two footings". My family; my husband, son, and I + three greek stray ex-pats 🐈‍⬛🐈🐈, live in Norway and have had our house in Crete since 2005, where we spend a lot of time. I am there personally more often and regularly throughout the whole year to take care of this project. Winter and springtime - the cold months, are particularly important times to maintain the well-being of our furry friends. When we all are in Norway we have a local caretaker, a fantastic woman, and an animal lover🙏

The Stray Cat Project had its early beginning in 2016, took a more considered form in 2018, and in 2020 it also kicked off our income-generating 'Art for Change' project; “Felíni Art, Heart, and Handcraft”. This idea was born out of a direct personal need for extra income to be able to continue this humble contribution of increasing animal welfare among homeless cats in our neighborhood. To give a picture of our project; the beautiful Greek Islands, are known for their friendly cats and dogs in plenty that charms us tourists in the summer months - unfortunately, there is a backside to it. When the tourist season is over, many stray animals are left to search the garbage cans to survive the cold and rainy winter months. Illness, hunger, wounds, and injuries are facing many of them. The lack of spaying causes an uncounted amount of stray and feral kittens to be born to undoubtedly hard lives. Stray and feral cats are more exposed to the environment and prone to injuries. When a homeless animal gets sick or injured their life depends on a stranger's or if lucky, a friend's mercy and willingness to both catch them (they are mostly wild), bring them to the vet, facilitate the recovery, and take the economic burden and pay for it. This is what we try to do. As a very small project, we can't do miracles, but we can definitely do some. Again, we are not a shelter, we can’t give them a home, except for a few individuals who snuck in the back door🤔😻😄, but we are promoting healthcare to give these cats a better life. If you want to join us in supporting our stray and feral friends in Crete - to give them a happy and healthy life - we would all 🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈 be super happy!❤️ We are raising money for the project to could provide daily as well as medical care. Any contribution - however small, will make an impact! We also hope that many will find this project worth supporting by following, liking, sharing, and please send us some good vibes and good wishes! Everything helps!😊🙏

And again - there is also possible to support us through our shop www.felini.no - where you can buy our art - jewelry, paintings, photography, and music (we are all professionals) - where at the time ALL profits go directly to our Stray Cat Project - just because it is needed. Thanks for reading and visiting!❤️🙏

Kind regards, Gøril

Lurven✨To add a little movie —as it brings so much hope. Just hours after the vet visit, sedation, and less than 24h after the seizure… look at him! Like little has happened…🥰🙏

We’ll update when the blood test results come back. Worth mentioning: last spring Lurven had a similar incident, but back then he was in very bad shape and we never found out why. Maybe now we’ll finally get answers.

For now, I just hold on to the hope this video brings — resilience is truly in his nature. 💚✨

Drama in Felini House.
Thursday night our sweet Lurven suddenly had a serious epileptic seizure – heavy cramps, and a lot of blood after biting his tongue. 😢 It was pure luck I was there to see it happen.

With no emergency vet available after closing hours, all I could do was get him into a safe cage next to my bed – soft bedding, water, and eyes on him all night.

This morning we rushed to the vet. He had blood tests and booster shots, and while he was sedated I finally managed to groom him properly – about a football-sized amount of fur removed! (Lurven is definitely not a lapcat… so this was a rare opportunity!☺️).

To my huge relief, he recovered quickly and came home like nothing had happened. Back to his normal self – at least for now. 💚

We don’t yet know if this is truly epilepsy. The blood test results will give us more answers. For now I’m just grateful he pulled through and is safe.

✨ Hug your furry friends extra today – life with them is precious and unpredictable.

Mio and Mina (part 3)

❄️🐾 From Cretan fields to Norwegian snow — Mio & Mina’s first snow was pure joy! They adapted quickly to their new environment, and surprisingly fast to our three cats as well.

Mio found his forever home nearby — a beautiful match. I still get regular updates with pictures and videos, and there’s no doubt he is in the right family! ❤️

Mina stayed with us, and she even has a lovely bonus family, since we still need (and want!) to care for our furry felines in Crete. In other words, Mina has a big, beautiful pack — of both two- and four-legged friends — who love her dearly. ❤️

So this is the story — from roadside abandoned… to safe, loved, and home. ✨

✨ Thank you for following this journey of two small souls, from an unsure future to forever homes. My hope is that their story inspires more compassion and more action. Because every act of love makes a difference — for the animals, for the world, and for ourselves.

The story of Mio and Mina – (part 2)

Mio and Mina, the two abandoned puppies from my last post, continued living in my car. We went on long walks — early mornings, late evenings, and many in between. Far too much for such little doggies, but always in the hope of meeting someone who could offer them a safe forever home. With so many strays competing for love, though, no doors opened.

I quickly realized the next step had to be to prepare them for abroad: vaccines, microchips, papers, and passports. I expanded my search, hoping maybe their future family was in another country. And so we waited anxiously for responses. 🍀🙏

But I have to add — in the middle of everything, in spite of the worry and the race against time, we also had fun! We shared beautiful walks, watching sunrises and sunsets ❤️. To be honest, I rarely experience those hours of the day outside unless I’m camping 😉. Mio and Mina ran free in the green olive fields and played in the sand on wild winter beaches. Crete can be cold, but at this time of year it’s also breathtakingly beautiful. They were both so trusting, and we bonded fast.

By late January, my second postponed return ticket was due. Still no home had been found for my little friends. But they were ready to travel — so I’ll shorten the story and end with the obvious: Mio, Mina, and me, on a plane to Norway. To be continued… 🥰🐶

The promised story about the two abandond puppies that entered our cat life - Mio and Mina (part 1)🥰

Our journey started last winter. Two small puppies, 2–3 months old, abandoned in a field where many animals have sadly been left before. With only a few houses nearby, they were roaming the road — easy targets for passing cars.

I stopped. Asked around. None of the neighbors knew them, though they had seen them wandering the last couple of days.

I don’t know much about dogs — as you know, I’m an above-average dedicated cat woman 😁 — but leaving them there was never an option. So into Mr. Punto they went — my small car, suddenly transformed into a doghouse on wheels 🚗🐶🐶

Our house is definitely a cathouse — not safe for puppies, and not safe for some of our fragile cats to suddenly have two jumping baby dogs inside. So the car became their home for the next weeks… this story is to be continued. More pictures to come. Stay tuned.

✨ I want to remind you why I share these stories: because I believe every rescue starts with a choice. And I believe that those who read and connect with these stories are people who might also choose to rescue. My hope is to inspire and encourage you to make that stop, take it on, and choose love and compassion. For the sake of abandoned animals, for the sake of every suffering soul — and for your own sake. It will make you happy! 🤗🌍🙏❤️

First I want to apologize for being so quiet online these past months. The past half year has been filled with challenges, and I’ve been more active hands-on with our furry friends than online. So much has happened — heartbreaks, miracles, and everything in between. We’ve had abandoned puppies, injured cats, tiny kittens fighting for their lives, and brave souls who showed us what strength looks like. Some we lost, some survived against all odds, and some are now thriving in their new homes.

Each of them has a story worth telling, and I want to share those with you — one by one in the coming weeks. Because every single one of them deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and honored. 🐾❤️

Thank you for your patience, for caring, and for always supporting the work we do. Even when it’s quiet here on social media, please know that we never stop the work we’re doing.

Dear everybody 🥰 - again, I’m so sorry for my slow updates - so much is going on at the moment and too little time for the web. But we are here - all of us. We are doing mostly great! Even Mille, one of our stomatities patients, is doing increasingly better. We might be ready for some teeth pulling pretty soon - we follow closely. Tassen - my big love 😻- has been on a round with meds for a respiratory infection. But now good again. He is just as cute and funny as he can be! Then, I ran into another challenge - as you know, I am a ‘crazy cat woman’ but this winter on one of my journies to Crete I ended up with two abandoned puppies… this has been a huge challenge. I will tell you more in the next post.😉 Have a great weekend! Stay happy and healthy! Love from all of us!❤️
