In May, CMA was proud to be represented at the Resident Doctors and Dentists Conference in Leeds, UK.

During the Working Internationally session, CMA dental volunteer alumni Dr. Robert and Dr. Zinab presented CMA’s humanitarian healthcare work and shared their experiences providing dental care to residents of Mavrovouni camp through CMA’s operations on Lesvos.

The conference was held as part of Resident Doctors and Dentists Week, celebrating and recognizing the vital contributions and dedication of resident doctors and dentists across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We would like to thank the conference organizers for the invitation, and Dr. Robert and Dr. Zinab for representing CMA and sharing their experiences.

The presentation helped raise awareness of the importance of dental care for refugees, asylum seekers, and other communities facing barriers to accessing healthcare—an often overlooked aspect of humanitarian healthcare. It also highlighted opportunities for dental professionals interested in volunteering.

This week, we held our first dental health promotion session in partnership with Iliaktida, a Lesvos-based organization supporting people with disabilities and other vulnerable population groups, including unaccompanied minors.

Through CMA’s pharmacy and dental programs, this partnership helps strengthen access to healthcare to communities on the island.

During the session, CMA’s dental team shared practical oral hygiene tips with the 10 attending unaccompanied minors and carried out dental screenings to identify any follow-up care needs.

We’re grateful to begin this collaboration with and look forward to continuing our joint efforts to support the community.

In the first quarter of 2026, our dental team provided care to 323 patients — equivalent to approximately 11.2% of Mavrovouni camp’s population.

In a camp with high population turnover, maintaining access to dental care can be particularly challenging, as residents frequently arrive, depart, or are transferred. The number reflects not only continued access to services, but also the role of ongoing outreach efforts in connecting patients with care within a constantly changing environment.

Q1 impact at CMA in numbers

From dental care on Lesvos to pharmacy support on both Lesvos and Kos, our teams have continued providing essential healthcare services to camp residents throughout the first months of 2026.

In Q1:
• 2,137 patients were supported across our operations in total
• 317 dental treatments were provided on Lesvos
• 1,814 people received medication support through our pharmacy programs on Lesvos and Kos (in Kos, in collaboration with )

These numbers reflect CMA’s ongoing commitment to making quality healthcare accessible for people facing barriers to accessing it.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support CMA’s work.

A big thank you to for this month's generous donation of essential medicines, helping us strengthen access to healthcare where it’s needed most.

Through GIVMED’s initiative to give "sleeping stock", safe medicines a second life, we recently received:
- 1,000 boxes of ibuprofen
- 22 boxes of cough syrup

These medications will be safely distributed through CMA’s pharmacy operations, supporting individuals and communities with limited access to essential treatment.

By redirecting surplus medicines to frontline healthcare providers, initiatives like this not only reduce pharmaceutical waste but also ensure that vital resources reach those who need them most.
We’re grateful for this continued collaboration and the impact it creates across Greece.🤝

From emergency response to expanded dental care.

In 2020, CMA started a dental program inside Mavrovouni refugee camp on Lesvos island, Greece, focusing on addressing residents’ urgent dental needs. The program began when Mavrovouni camp opened following the destruction of Moria refugee camp in the aftermath of the 2020 fire.

While access to dental care remains an ongoing and urgent need, our approach always adapts based on needs assessments in a changing context.

Today, the dental clinic has grown into two well-established dental rooms, providing emergency treatment as well as preventative care and dental hygiene sessions.

Over the next weeks, we’ll be sharing more about how it started — and how it’s going.

📍 Northern Greece

CMA was recently invited by to carry out a medical needs assessment at their sites in Northern Greece: Thessaloniki, Kavala & Serres.

Assessments were conducted across these three locations to identify gaps in healthcare provision and areas where support may be needed.

Collaboration is central in humanitarian healthcare, helping ensure efforts are coordinated and responsive — while needs assessments guide where and how support can be most effective.
