Smiles lit up the room, demonstrating how technology can transcend worlds and make the foreign feel a little more like home. There was a strong sense of camaraderie there. Times like these serve as a reminder of the strength of creativity and unity. By working together, we can create a community that accepts and cares for all people, regardless of their background.

📢 EU Takes Major Step Towards Unified Migration and Asylum System
The European Commission has unveiled its Common Implementation Plan for the Pact on Migration and Asylum. This plan outlines how the EU will put into action its new, comprehensive approach to managing migration by June 2026.
The plan consists of 10 building blocks, covering everything from border management to integration efforts and EU countries must create national implementation plans by the end of 2024.
New systems will ensure fair responsibility-sharing among member states, and ensure no EU country is left to face migration challenges alone.

The Commission has presented the Common Implementation Plan for the Pact on Migration and Asylum to ensure everything is in place by June 2026 to make the Pact a reality.

At the heart of the European Commission’s 2021-2027 action plan on integration and inclusion lies the crucial goal of ensuring access to adequate and affordable housing for migrants.
🤝 Key Challenges:
• Perceived discrimination and lack of affordable housing
• Insufficient public housing stock
• Complex bureaucratic processes and lack of information
💡 Good Practices:
• Direct provision of accommodation through civil society and local authorities
• Mediation between migrants and private homeowners
• Providing migrants with language and orientation courses with the goal to become self-reliant and able to move on to private, long-term housing afterwards.

As we near the conclusion of our NAVI-MIG project, we’d like to share some important insights from the latest World Migration Report 2024 by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This report provides a comprehensive overview of global migration trends and challenges.

📊 Key Highlights:

International Remittances: Remittances sent by migrants have surged significantly, reaching USD 831 billion in 2022, surpassing foreign direct investments in many developing countries.
Growth in Migrant Population: There are currently 281 million international migrants worldwide, with the number of displaced people reaching a record 117 million by the end of 2022.
Pandemic Impact: The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly transformed global migration, with a significant recovery underway, but the world remains less mobile than in 2019.
