GASAH (Greek And Swiss Animal Help) is an animal welfare organisation operating on the island of Kos.

We focus on sterilisation projects, awareness raising and implementation of laws and animal rescue. You can find all kinds of methods to support us and help the animals on Kos on our website:

𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲🌈
At the shelter we do more than taking care of animals. We look out for the environment, our property and each other. 🌍
One way of doing this is with paintings. Sometimes we have talented or inspiring volunteers who help make our shelter a more beautiful place. This week our gate at the front patio and the side of our house had a make-over. 🎨
With one painting at the time we are transforming our shelter to a colorful and stimulating environment. It keeps our minds rich and peaceful.✨

𝗥𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲

He was found by a local and went straight to the vet. One of his eyes had to be removed and the other one is damaged. We are treating it now with eye drops and hope we can save it this way, it seems to be getting better.

Apart from this Rubble is eating well, gaining strength and behaving just as any other small kitten. He is looking for his forever home where he can get all the care and love he deserves.

𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺

She was friendly, and used to people. But when we tried to catch her she tried to run away, that’s when we got the dropper - it is the safest way to get the cat and be able to take her to the vet so she can get the treatment she needs. Cats are just very smart.

𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 🐐
Goats need regular hoof trimming too! Not all animals wear their hooves down naturally. How quickly hooves wear depends on several factors: the ground they walk on, how much they move, but also their leg conformation, genetics and age.

That’s why it’s important to keep an eye on their hooves and trim them when needed!

Our Amalia is a perfect example. Because of her leg conformation, the walls of her hooves keep curling. To keep her comfortable and walking well, we trim her hooves regularly.

This time we had expert help: our friend Beat, a professional hoof trimmer from Switzerland, stopped by and showed us how it’s done properly. Thank you, Beat, for sharing your knowledge with us! 💚

By now everybody should know that Lou moved in with us. It feels like she always belonged here and we are happy to have her around.

But taking care of a blind dog takes time, effort, and also money - and of course, Lou our special girl, has allergies, which means she is on a specific diet: special food, the right treats, and a little extra attention to keep her comfortable.

𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲💕
Callie is a young, energetic dog with a big heart. Born in 2025, she is around 60 centimeters tall and weighs about 30 kilograms. She loves being around people and especially enjoys attention and cuddles. 🐶 In some situations, Callie can still be a little unsure and may need a moment to assess what is happening. Once she feels comfortable, she is playful, affectionate, and cheerful. 🌸 Callie still has a lot to learn and is looking for experienced dog owners who can provide her with clear routines, guidance, and a sense of security. A home with older children could also be a good fit. Her interactions with other dogs and cats are still being evaluated.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 👀

2 new blind kittens arrived at the shelter: Kiki & Pisa.
Kiki was covered in fleas and probably already fully blind. Once she’s big enough she will have to have eye surgery. She had anti-parasite treatment and a bath to get rid of all the fleas and now she is spending her time recovering with her new friends Elpida and Rambl.

And Pisa - also blind, still getting used to people and being blind. We are trying to spend some time with her to make her feel more comfortable.

Our food delivery from the municipality was on board the Blue Carrier 2, the ship that burned.

𝗔 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 🏠
When we found Juni she was very shy and scared. She didn’t wanted us to come close and was too afraid to do anything. It took her a long time before she was able to trust us and even longer before she was comfortable around people.🙏

Luckily for us Juni really likes food, she is a dog that could be seduced with some tasty treats. 🦴 This played a huge part in her process. But the biggest help to gain her trust was a shelter dog at that time, Lexi. She showed Juni the way around the shelter and that people are really not that scary.

After Juni was getting more comfortable around 1 person, we started to introduce more and more dogs from the shelter. While also slowly introducing other volunteers to her. She started playing with the other shelter dogs and transformed from a fearful dog who didn’t want to leave her kennel to a dog that was running around the shelter. 💨

Now more than a year later we couldn’t be more proud of her but unfortunately she is not there yet. To being able to continue to grow her confidence and trust in the world, she needs a forever home.🐾

She is missing a stable family, people that understand her and where she can have a routine she can rely on.

𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 🐾
An afternoon at the animal shelter, and what a learning experience! 🐱💛

Our young visitors learned:
🐾 Cats decide for themselves when they want closeness.
🐾 Calm movements build trust.
🐾 Not every animal has a home. Many are homeless and are cared for here at our shelter.

Lasting change can only come from pet owners taking responsibility: spay/neuter, microchip, never abandon.

This afternoon, both sides benefited: the cats received attention, and the kids learned empathy and responsibility. 💛
