Eid & Nowruz Celebration 💜

Last week, our Community Centre came together to celebrate the end of Ramadan and the Persian New Year. 🌙✨
Under the guidance of a talented chef from our community, our team prepared a delicious buffet for everyone to enjoy. 🥘

It was also a moment to discover traditions, like the Nowruz egg-breaking game, Tokhm-Jangi!

Songs from around the world, dancing, card games, amazing food - it was the perfect way to celebrate together.

« Just a Walk, Damn It — A Walk for March to Burn Me » 🎭

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, our theatre group took the stage in front of a packed house at the Elefthroupoli Theatre.

🗣️ In collaboration with ΑοΚ ΑμεΑ and the Prefectural Sports Association for People with Disabilities of Kavala (NASAMEA), and under the direction of Maria Koltsakidou, this performance brought to life 12 short stories written by Tasos Vizikidis.

✨ This collaboration shows that art has the power to challenge discrimination in all its forms.
👉 All funds collected during the performances directly support NASAMEA and Northern Lights Aid.

(Fun)draising in Zürich 💜

Last Saturday, our Swiss branch hosted an event to raise funds and awareness for displaced families in Kavala.

✨ In the afternoon, kids enjoyed creative activities, dance sessions, and snacks.
🗣️ From 6pm, adults joined talks by our field team and board members, alongside games and music.
🫶 Handmade scrunchies, beanies, and printed t-shirts were offered in exchange to monetary donations.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who came — your solidarity makes a real difference.

International Women’s Day gathering 💜

Last Wednesday, our Women’s Space hosted a celebration for women in our community.

👉 The room filled with dance, laughter, and so much joy
🌸 Women shared their amazing skills: henna, hairdressing, nail art, and dance
🎲 Kids had a great time too! Our volunteer team organised activities so their mothers could fully enjoy the moment

Every Wednesday, women can join the Women’s Space for English lessons, fitness sessions, and creative activities. This time together is essential to help everyone feel welcome at NLA.

On International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our solidarity with forcibly displaced women around the world.

People on the move take dangerous routes to seek safety.
Among them, women face targeted violence — on the journey, at the border, and upon arrival.

Current protection systems are inadequate. We call for asylum systems that guarantee safety and treat every person’s story with a gender-sensitive approach.

Tomorrow, the European Parliament will vote on the Deportation Regulation. We stand against a law that will further endanger people’s lives, including women seeking safety, and strip them of their right to protection.
