Christianity was first brought to Greece and then spread to the rest of Europe, thanks to the Apostle Paul. During his second missionary journey, Apostle Paul brought the message of Jesus Christ to Greece, as he preached in synagogues, visiting many places on foot. Following in his footsteps, Sofia Papaspyrou, an archeologist and museologist, as well as an excellent tour guide, will lead a group o
f us on a walking journey along the ancient route Paul took on his second missionary journey. Starting from Kavala (Neapolis), we will stop in Phillipi and at Lydia’s baths (Acts 16:11-12) where he delivered his first sermon in Europe and baptized Lydia. We will then pass through Amphipolis and Apollonia (Acts 17:1) to reach Thessalonica. All in all, it will be a journey of 180 km on foot via Egnatia, just like the Apostle Paul and his companions took. I am embarking on this walking journey not only because I love pilgrimage walks but to support two organizations I also love, One Heart and Nea Zoi, both of which support individuals who themselves have walked, with some crossing the valleys, mountains and even seas to get here. People from all nations who have fled their countries due to poverty, violence and persecution in search for a better life. My desire and hope is that through the incredible work of these two organisations, people will also get to know the message of the Gospel the Apostle Paul preached here so many years ago to the Greeks and the to the nations!
