Missing the authorization from the greek government which forbids kitchens inside camps for security reasons, people are not allowed to cook for themselves (for the lucky cases of who can afford to buy food in the village with the money they get from families and friends already in Europe). They can't choose, they are obliged to eat everyday the same food since months, which doesn't cover the nutr
itional needs for many of them. Each human body is different and has different requirements. Some of them got the status of „special need“ and they can access to extra rations or different food (see pregnant and breast feeding women, for example). For the moment the only possible legal solution to provide extra food, supplementing the one they already get from the ordinary distribution, is to open a kitchen outside the camp. So here is one of the reasons of PCK's existence! But beside that, there is the strong will to give them back the dignity to cook for their families and the pleasure to eat instead of just covering a basic need. We would like to provide them an healthy balanced diet that also nourishes their souls and helps relieve their homesickness. The goal is to offer to syrian women and men a joyful protected space where they can come and where we can all mingle our grandmothers' knowledges, work together to learn each other's recipes from our countries, and hopefully this will trigger some tasty memories of their lost homes in Syria and get them more ready and aware of their future lives in Europe.
