🎉Χαρούμενη #ΠαγκόσμιαΗμέραΘαλάσσιαςΧελώνας με νέες ανακαλύψεις για αυτά τα μοναδικά ταξιδιάρικα πλάσματα!
📡 Για χρόνια πιστεύαμε ότι οι θαλάσσιες χελώνες Καρέττα ακολουθούν σχετικά προβλέψιμες διαδρομές μετά την ωοτοκία τους. Τα νέα δεδομένα όμως από το πρόγραμμα δορυφορικής παρακολούθησης του ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ, στο πλαίσιο του ευρωπαϊκού έργου , αποκαλύπτουν έναν πολύ πιο σύνθετο κόσμο και διαφορετικές στρατηγικές μετανάστευσης:
🗺️ Στρατηγική Δάφνης: «Θα πάω κάπου και θα μείνω» για τις χελώνες που επιλέγουν έναν προορισμό και παραμένουν εκεί για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα
🗺️ Στρατηγική Χάριετ: «Από τα βαθιά στα ρηχά και πάλι πίσω στα βαθιά» για όσες κινούνται συνεχώς ανάμεσα σε βαθιά και ρηχά νερά
🗺️ Στρατηγική Αριάδνης: «Δε στέκομαι πουθενά» για αυτές που παραμένουν διαρκώς σε κίνηση, διασχίζοντας μεγάλες αποστάσεις στη Μεσόγειο
🗺️ Στρατηγική Άρτεμις: «Δεν βάζω όλα τα αυγά στο ίδιο καλάθι» για όσες φωλιάζουν σε διαφορετικές παραλίες μέσα στην ίδια αναπαραγωγική περίοδο
Οι θαλάσσιες χελώνες δεν ακολουθούν ένα μόνο μονοπάτι και η προστασία τους δεν αφορά μόνο τις παραλίες ωοτοκίας, αλλά ολόκληρο το ταξίδι τους στη Μεσόγειο!

🎉Happy with new discoveries about loggerhead sea turtles!
📡For years, we believed that followed predictable migration routes after nesting. New satellite tracking data from ARCHELON, during the European project, reveal a much more complex picture with different migration strategies:
🗺️Daphne’s strategy: “I’ll find a place and stay there” for those who choose a destination and remain there for long periods.
🗺️Harriet’s strategy: “From deep to shallow waters and back again” for those constantly moving between deep and shallow habitats.
🗺️Ariadne’s strategy: “I can't be stopped” for some turtles that are constantly on the move, covering great distances in the Mediterranean.
🗺️Artemis’ strategy: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” for those nesting on different beaches during the same breeding season.
These findings remind us that sea turtles do not follow a single path and help us protect the future of the species all over the big Mediterranean Sea.
