Friends, I know Iโ€™ve been very quiet here lately, and Iโ€™m sorry for that. The past year has been extremely difficult and emotionally exhausting for me, and Iโ€™m still trying to gather the pieces and find my way forward again.
Every rescuer knows - no matter how many you help, there will always be more cats. And the more cats there are, the less time and energy remains for everything else โ€“ including posting and sharing updates.
But my work and efforts continue, even if you haven't seen it on here lately.
And that brings me to this young lady, who suddenly appeared in my garden a few weeks ago. At first I honestly thought I was seeing double, because she looks so much like Maggie โ€“ Simonโ€™s mom โ€“ whom Iโ€™ve been caring for for about two and a half years. (Check out the pictures! ๐Ÿ˜…)
She's an incredibly sweet and affectionate young cat and quickly became a member of my yard crew.
With all the heavy rain in winter, itโ€™s always a bit uncertain if and when you'll see a cat, so the day I had scheduled her first spaying appointment, she was nowhere to be found ๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ˜…
Luckily, the second attempt was much more successful and she was spayed the other day, partly funded by the amazing organization Patouses Greece.
Thank you so much for your help, dear friends from Patouses Greece! The work you do funding spay and neuter truly changes the lives of so many strays. For those of us trying to help them on the ground, this support means more than I can properly express. Iโ€™m deeply grateful for your help and for everything you do to give strays the chance at a better life. ๐Ÿ’œ

Friends, do you remember the little male kitten with the horrific fungal infection and twisted front leg?
I will make an extra post sharing all the updates on him (I will finally have internet again later this month ๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ˜…) but I nursed him back to health, had him vaccinated, and then traveled to Germany with him where a specialist can hopefully fix his leg. (We have an appointment for an exam in 12 days)
As many of you know, one of my latest rescues, Violet, became so life-threatening sick that she needed to be hospitalized several times. That massive bill needs to be paid off in monthly installments now which brought me into a situation where I couldn't afford to pay for Dino's neutering.
I reached out to my dear friends from the amazing organization Patouses Greece and because of these special circumstances and since Dino was rescued as a Cretan stray cat, they didn't hesitate to tell me they'd help.
He was neutered without any complications and is back home with me and his friends.
Patouses Greece, I can't thank you enough for this. I had been the very first to receive help from you all this time ago and then many times more. Thank you for understanding the urgency of the situation and for all you do for the Greek strays.
Happy new year from Dino, friends. An update on him with many, many more pictures is soon to come ๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿฆ•๐Ÿ’œ

Meowy, meowy Christmas from us!
Thank you for everything ๐Ÿ’œ
I still don't have internet at home and I have no data on my phone left so posting takes forever but I'll be back soon. Meanwhile ... if you get the chance, please take a look at the fundraiser for one of my latest rescues, Violet. Your support would mean the world.

Friends, these sweet 3 girls were spayed, funded by the amazing organization Patouses Greece.
The first kitty needed some extra treatment and meds which I paid for myself. The third girl turned out to be so friendly that a dear friend volunteered to foster her to see if we can find her a forever home ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
92 neutered cats and counting ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ
Can we make it 100?

Update on the eye kitten ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค
I did what I always do: I read for her ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ˜พ
After hissing at me for 2 days, she finally started to come around and I could begin with the treatment.
She became so friendly that I felt comfortable with taking her to the vet again, today. She was scared but did great ๐Ÿ’œ - I was so proud of her.
The vets were cautiously optimistic that she is not losing her eyesight completely and she has gained a good amount of weight, too. When I had found her, she was so skinny and tiny that I initially thought she was a lot younger. But now that she's getting regular meals, you can basically watch her grow.
She has received her first vaccines and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. I have to continue with the treatment of 2 different eye drops and one ointment 7 times per day.
Friends, I can't tell you how glad I am that I decided to give it a try. That I decided against releasing her.
But I have only received one single donation of 10โ‚ฌ (thank you, Beatrice!) for her.
I desperately need your help. The bill is for her, and another kitten I saved from the same spot, where repeatedly cats were found poisoned. (You'll get to meet her soon!) Additionally, I bought spot-ons for the other 4 kittens and special food as two of them have sensitive stomachs.
Friends, I CANNOT cover these bills without your help. Please, please, please help me help the eye kitty. I'm adding QR codes for PayPal and Venmo to the comments.

New sick kitten โš ๏ธ
A few weeks ago, a friend visited me here in Chania and stayed at a hotel nearby. Needless to say that there were cats near that hotel. Many cats. More than 20 cats, in fact. She was feeding them during her stay but I could see that almost all of them were not spayed/neutered so I promised them I'd try to help. You know me, I like to keep my promises, even more when it's a promise to a cat (or any animal tbh).
The amount of cats there was overwhelming and devastating. They were hiding during the day but even in the dark I could see that some of them needed medical aid. And I also saw one tiny, tiny kitten, maybe 2 months old. But when I tried to come closer she immediately ran off. I couldn't forget about them, especially not about that tiny baby and one older tom cat who looked really sick.
It is a bit difficult because I always need someone to drive me there to trap/release a cat but when I went back to trap some of them, the kitten appeared again. She was still extremely skittish, I couldn't see her from up close and only had the flashlight from my phone but I noticed that something had happened to her eye. She was ravenous for food so fortunately I could trap her.
But, friends, here's the problem ... if you have a cat with such an inflammation in an eye, the only thing that helps is local treatment with drops or ointment. And when a cat is so feral that you can't touch her, there's nothing you can do. I had her spayed and asked the vet to examine the eye during the anesthesia - there was no way it could have been done without sedation. I was told there is a chance but only if I can start the treatment immediately and only if I can treat the eye locally. An eye inflammation is very time sensitive and becomes really gnarly real quick.
My heart was so heavy. She was so tiny and so scared of me. How was I supposed to touch her, let alone give her eye drops? But what was the alternative? Releasing her, knowing that she would lose the eye and maybe die from a sepsis?
Friends, she is so young still that I decided to keep her for now and see if I can gain her trust and turn this around. I don't know if her eye can be saved but I do know that I will try.
I will be honest with you ... the last thing I needed was another cat. But she needs me and that's all that matters.
Please help me help her. Please help me with donations for her food, litter and vet bills. I can't do this without you.

A few months ago, a dear friend moved into a new home and - just as everywhere here - there were plenty of cats. He sees what I do here and became more aware of the situation and how important it is to spay/neuter. Sadly, we can't find homes for all of them, no matter how badly my heart wants to see every animal in a loving, safe home. But we can at least give them a chance, we can spare them from countless of pregnancies, we can prevent the birth and suffering of more kittens and hopefully we can save them from diseases like FIV which is mostly transmitted through brutal fights of unneutered males or mating.
My friend doesn't have the equipment nor experience but he wanted to help them and so did I.
The amazing organization Patouses Greece said, they would cover the costs, so I trapped these 3 sweethearts, 2 girls and 1 boy (oh my God, is he a cutie pie - in a perfect world he would be someone's best friend ๐Ÿฅฒ), who have a chance at a better life now. I can't thank them enough for their help.
And to make this story even more wholesome: The sweet tortie had one last kitten, a little panther, who was taken in by another friend where he's getting fostered until he has a forever home ๐Ÿ’œ
Friends, please support me in my efforts to help the cats of Chania. There's only so much I can do on my own but together we can achieve so, so much more. Please help me help them. We are all they have. They need us.

Friends, meet the 2 siblings of the kittens from my last post.
The eldery couple who had them on their terrace reached out to me and told me that they love them and want them back to keep them - but outside. I went there and for the first time I saw the backside of their home where they had about 10 more kittens. ๐Ÿ’” I had a very long chat with them and told them that the kittens were covered in fleas, have ear mites and one has a severe gum inflammation - her mouth was bleeding every time she was eating. They hadn't even noticed. I explained to them that if they love their cats so much, they need to get them fixed and keep them inside, especially now with the continuous poisonings. The kittens have already lost their mom to poison. Both are in their eighties and completely overwhelmed - they (like many, many people here) mean well but think it's enough to put water and leftovers outside. I promised them to try my best and find good homes for them where they will be safe and cared for and thankfully they understood. All 4 siblings are safe with me, I brought them kitten food for their other cats and I will help getting them all fixed once they're old enough.
But now it's the turn for these 2 cuties.
Friends, unfortunately I haven't received ANY donations from my last posts. Not one cent to help me care for them. ๐Ÿฅฒ
Can you please help me getting them spayed/neutered? It's 37โ‚ฌ for the little orange boy and 70โ‚ฌ for his beautiful calico sister plus 10โ‚ฌ for each of the 4 spot-ons.
Please, please, please help me help them. I can't do it without you.

Friends, this year has been an incredibly tragic and heartbreaking one.
Throughout the whole year, poison was repeatedly scattered in my immediate neighborhood by some coward โ€“ a sick individual, or maybe even more than one, I donโ€™t know. This person has never been found.
Many animals, both cats and dogs, lost their lives. Some of the cats I had cared for, spayed/neutered, and fed with my own money โ€“ healthy cats who bothered no one โ€“ were also killed. Beloved pets of local families died.
Because of this, I have tried so hard to bring all the surviving cats from my beach colony into safety. Several times, poison was even placed only a few meters from my gate. Posters were put up, and yesterday animal-loving neighbors gathered for a meeting. But it is very difficult to find the responsible person. Sadly, this happens far too often here, especially before and after the tourist season.
That is why spaying/neutering is absolutely vital.
It is the first and most important step. If we cannot find homes for them all, then at the very least we must trap and neuter them to spare them from endless suffering - the only way to break this vicious cycle.
A few months ago, in an alley just a few meters from where I fed my beach colony, I saw a mother cat with four kittens. The kittens were too young at first, but I kept them in mind and the mom was fixed. Now the kittens are old enough so, earlier this week, I scheduled 2 appointmens and went there to take the first 2.
Thatโ€™s when I learned from the eldery couple who lives in that house that the mother had been poisoned, too. ๐Ÿ’”
I took two of the female kittens for sterilization, but I simply couldnโ€™t bring them back outside afterward. I couldnโ€™t bear the thought of them possibly suffering the same fate. So, even though I have no space left, even though I am already overwhelmed with cats and paying everything out of my own pocket โ€“ food, litter, vet bills โ€“ I made the decision to foster all four kittens and find them a home.
These two adorable girls have already been spayed with the help of the amazing organization Patouses Greece, who kindly covered the costs. I am deeply grateful for their support, their commitment to preventing suffering, and their efforts in helping with sterilizations.
Friends, these siblings are not going back outside but I need your help to care for them. It's litter and food for 4 more cats while I'm already caring for so many.
If you can, please support me with donations. I can't do this without you. Together we can save lives and stop the suffering. Let's change 4 little feline lives for the better together.

Marco ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค
Friends, today I've finally heard back from the surgeon and I don't have the time to write a post with all the new info I've received, so let's do another happy post first and introduce you to one of my newest cats, Marco ๐Ÿฅน
2,5 months ago, he showed up close to my house but wouldn't come anywhere near me. I started putting food out for him at a hidden spot where he felt safe and he became a regular dinner (and sometimes breakfast) guest. Honestly, his little head popping up makes my day every time (I'm going to add a picture and the first one I ever took of him)
I scheduled an appointment and had him neutered. He trusts me a lot more now and let's me get really close to him and - my absolute favorite thing about him - hisses with his whole face whilst rubbing against my legs when I'm feeding him. I think he loves me in his own weird way ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚ and I know for sure that I love him.
If you can, please donate to support me feeding more than 60 cats.
