Friends, this year has been an incredibly tragic and heartbreaking one.
Throughout the whole year, poison was repeatedly scattered in my immediate neighborhood by some coward โ a sick individual, or maybe even more than one, I donโt know. This person has never been found.
Many animals, both cats and dogs, lost their lives. Some of the cats I had cared for, spayed/neutered, and fed with my own money โ healthy cats who bothered no one โ were also killed. Beloved pets of local families died.
Because of this, I have tried so hard to bring all the surviving cats from my beach colony into safety. Several times, poison was even placed only a few meters from my gate. Posters were put up, and yesterday animal-loving neighbors gathered for a meeting. But it is very difficult to find the responsible person. Sadly, this happens far too often here, especially before and after the tourist season.
That is why spaying/neutering is absolutely vital.
It is the first and most important step. If we cannot find homes for them all, then at the very least we must trap and neuter them to spare them from endless suffering - the only way to break this vicious cycle.
A few months ago, in an alley just a few meters from where I fed my beach colony, I saw a mother cat with four kittens. The kittens were too young at first, but I kept them in mind and the mom was fixed. Now the kittens are old enough so, earlier this week, I scheduled 2 appointmens and went there to take the first 2.
Thatโs when I learned from the eldery couple who lives in that house that the mother had been poisoned, too. ๐
I took two of the female kittens for sterilization, but I simply couldnโt bring them back outside afterward. I couldnโt bear the thought of them possibly suffering the same fate. So, even though I have no space left, even though I am already overwhelmed with cats and paying everything out of my own pocket โ food, litter, vet bills โ I made the decision to foster all four kittens and find them a home.
These two adorable girls have already been spayed with the help of the amazing organization Patouses Greece, who kindly covered the costs. I am deeply grateful for their support, their commitment to preventing suffering, and their efforts in helping with sterilizations.
Friends, these siblings are not going back outside but I need your help to care for them. It's litter and food for 4 more cats while I'm already caring for so many.
If you can, please support me with donations. I can't do this without you. Together we can save lives and stop the suffering. Let's change 4 little feline lives for the better together.
