🌊Perhaps it is the smell of the earth after the first autumn rain, the sound of familiar footsteps along narrow village streets, or the sight of the sea that never quite looks the same twice.

Perhaps it is the little things we carry without even realising — a taste, a memory, a place where time seems to slow down.

🧺Chios is more than where we come from. It is a feeling that travels with us, even when life takes us elsewhere. And no matter how far we wander, there will always be something here that feels like home.

🌊Today, we visited Pantoukios, a little fishing village on the northeastern coast of Chios, about 13 kilometres from Chios Town. A small harbour, fishing boats gently moving with the sea, cypress trees and little houses by the water. Nothing too loud, nothing asking for your attention. Just a place that invites you to stay a little longer.

👉We stopped at the Pantoukios Fish Taverna, a local spot that has been welcoming people since 1972, and sat right by the sea. Good food, the sound of the water and that feeling of having nowhere else to be.

I think these are the moments that stay with you long after you leave. I love discovering Chios at this time of year. When the summer rush is over, the island seems to take a deep breath. There is more time to wander, to sit by the sea, to talk to people and to notice the little things that make each place special.

Perhaps this is what I love most about living here: the reminder that life doesn’t always have to move so fast.
Sometimes, a quiet afternoon in a little fishing village is more than enough.

🧺Our first summer in Chios has come to an end.

A summer of new faces, old memories, shared stories and little pieces of Chios finding their way across the world.

💁‍♂️Thank you to everyone who walked through our door, stayed for a while, and became part of our story.

📔A September Saturday in Chios.
We started with a swim at Makria Ammos, stayed by the sea a little longer than planned, and then decided to drive up to Sidirounta.

🧺It’s one of those villages that feels very quiet when you arrive. A few permanent residents, old stone houses, narrow streets, and that particular feeling you get in places where life moves a little slower.

We walked around with no real plan, just following the streets uphill and stopping whenever we liked the view.

By late afternoon, we ended up at 📍Apano Sidirounta — a small, warm taverna right in the village. We sat down for food and, as usually happens in places like this, stayed much longer than we meant to.

☀️Then the sun started going down.
And this is probably the part we’ll remember most. The light from Sidirounta over the sea was incredible that evening. September has a way of making the sunsets here feel softer, warmer, almost unreal.

👉And this is exactly what we want to do more of from now on - we want to show you the quieter, slower, more authentic Chios — the villages, the people, the food, the landscapes and all those little places that feel even more special when the crowds are gone.

🧺September feels like the beginning of a new chapter at Elolathikes.

As summer slowly changes, so does the rhythm of the island. The beaches become quieter, the villages feel a little more themselves, and Chios begins to show us another side of island life — one that exists far beyond the summer months.

💁‍♂️And we want to share it with you.

From now on, you’ll find us every day at our little shop in Chios, getting back into our everyday rhythm and welcoming you in.

But there’s also a lot happening behind the scenes.

💙We’re working hard on a new collection, creating new products, exploring new ideas and bringing a few beautiful projects to life. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.

And for those of you who aren’t in Chios, Elolathikes is always open online.

👉Our eshop is there whenever you want to find something you loved, restock an old favourite, or discover something new from the island we call home.

Because we’ve always believed that Chios is not only a summer destination.

🧵From a very young age, Manes and Anna grew up with the loom as part of their childhood memories. They remember seeing people in their families, and friends of their grandmothers, using the loom in their homes — weaving by hand, creating, and keeping a beautiful tradition alive.

For Manes, those memories were shaped by his summer visits to his grandmother and grandfather, where he would see this tradition woven into the rhythm of family life. For Anna, the loom was also a familiar presence, surrounded by family and stories passed down through generations.

Those images became part of their childhood. Years later, they wanted to bring that memory into the present. To take something they had grown up seeing and give it a new meaning, a new purpose, and a place in today’s world.

🧶This is how the idea for the loom collection at Elolathikes was born.

💁‍♂️They sought out people who still carry the knowledge and craftsmanship of this tradition, and together they began designing pieces inspired by those childhood memories — pieces that honour where we come from while being made for the way we live today.

🤍Today, our loom collection is a unique part of Elolathikes.

A collection where tradition meets contemporary design, where old memories become new creations, and where a craft passed down through generations continues to live on.

💁‍♂️Visiting “Letter to an Ailing Father,” the 2026 DEO project at the historic Volissos School, reminded us of how important it is for Chios to have spaces where contemporary art can be created, shared, and experienced.

An exhibition like this is more than an artistic event. It brings new ideas, conversations, perspectives, and people to the island. It shows that cultural life in Chios can be active, contemporary, and connected to wider artistic conversations — while remaining deeply rooted in the island’s own places and history.

💙There is something especially meaningful about seeing contemporary artists inhabit a historic stone-built school in Volissos. A place with its own memories and layers becomes a meeting point for new stories, questions, and forms of expression.

🖌️We believe that initiatives like DEO are essential for enriching the cultural environment of Chios. They create opportunities for artists, audiences, and the local community to meet; they encourage curiosity and dialogue; and they contribute to making the island not only a place to visit, but also a place where culture is continuously being made.

We are grateful to have experienced this exhibition and to see art bringing new energy to a historic place.
