OPEN CALL | Art Prize

We invite artists from around the world to submit proposals for the 2027 Art Prize. The prize calls for large-scale sculptural installations designed for permanent display in an outdoor setting. The winning proposal will stand out for its originality, site-specificity, creative vision as well as its long-term sustainability.
The works are evaluated based on the clarity and conceptual coherence of the proposals, their relationship to the selected site and its specific context, as well as their potential to offer an active and engaging experience to the viewer.
The Art Prize 2027 is open to visual artists working in the fields of sculpture, installation, sound installation, mixed media, works using natural materials, land art, environmental art, ecological art, and practices that interweave art and nature to create innovative experiences in open-air environments.

It was our pleasure to welcome, for the third consecutive year, the International Centre for Hellenic and Mediterranean Studies (DIKEMES) to the G&A Mamidakis Foundation Art Collection.
As part of the College Year in Athens programme, students from the United States had the opportunity to discover the collection and explore different perspectives in contemporary art during their academic semester in Greece with DIKEMES.

We are welcoming applications for the fifth G&A Mamidakis Foundation Research Residency
📍 1-8 November 2026, Agios Nikolaos, Crete

The programme explores the intersections of Art, Science & Technology (AST) and the ways in which these collaborations can generate new responses. Through lectures, workshops, and collaborative research, participants will examine the philosophical, ecological, and social dimensions of AST practice, with a particular focus on media theory, mediation, and interdisciplinary exchange as frameworks for care, communication, and collective imagination.

In 2022, we launched our Residency Programme, building on a legacy dating back to the 1980s and inspired by a pioneering series of art symposia. Reimagining this legacy through a contemporary format, the residency programme brought together cultural professionals from diverse fields, inviting them to explore a common theme through their own practices, perspectives, and research, engaging in a shared process of learning, exchange, and experimentation.

From 2022 to 2024, the central theme of the programme was Care, a concept that unfolded and expanded each year, gaining further depth through the Foundation’s EU-funded project Care Ecologies.

We are delighted to present the outcome of these first three residency cycles: three volumes bringing together new texts, reflections, and research developed by our fellows at the conclusion of their residency experience.
Can a collective research experience become a catalyst for new ideas, artistic practices, and ways of thinking? We hope these publications offer a glimpse into the many possible answers to this question.
Whether you are a researcher, artist, student, or simply someone interested in exploring the notion of care through multiple perspectives, we invite you to discover these volumes and join the conversation.

This year, the 15th Children’s Festival of Agios Nikolaos invited young explorers on a "Journey Around the World", and we were delighted to support this beloved local event once again.

Inspired by Italy, a neighboring country with which we share strong cultural ties and one that is well represented in our collection, we supported an educational programme designed and implemented by .educational.
Through interactive activities, children and their families traveled across Italy, discovering interesting facts about its art, architecture, traditions, and food. Along the way, they completed challenges, explored different cities, and filled their passports with color, curiosity, and new discoveries.

A warm thank you to ama - Educational Experiences for their enthusiasm and inspiring programme.
We are grateful to be part of an initiative that continues to bring the community of Agios Nikolaos together through learning, creativity and play.

Chronotopia, by Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett | Winner of the 2026 G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize.

The art installation balances between a shared, universal experience of the world and the unique way each of us perceives it. By bringing multiple perspectives into dialogue, the work suggests that differences in perception do not undermine our sense of collectivity; rather, they reveal the possibility of a shared human experience rooted in coexistence, connection, and collective imagination.

Chronotopia enters the Foundation's collection at a time when individualism and fear of difference increasingly dominate contemporary life, reminding us that artistic practices like those of Caitlind and Wayne are vital to a collective effort to preserve our humanity, reflect together and gather within a shared experience. The work offers an opportunity to observe a landscape collectively and personally.

The installation invites viewers to move through the space it creates and observe the surrounding landscape through the lenses. In this way, the viewer becomes an essential component of the work: only through their presence is it activated, and only through their participation is it completed.
