The situation in Greece for animals is very bad. The stray dogs and cats by law are supposed to be taken care from the local municipality in every area of Greece for neutering, treatment, vaccines and microchip. Of course, the municipalities do absolutely nothing and more than 50% of the greek population is indifferent or hostile to strays. So, the vol
unteers try to do something which is never enough as the strays are too many and no systematic neutering is taking place, neither from local authorities nor from private persons. As many of the strays are not for adoption-home life we usually feed them outside in public or hidden places, preferably during the night to avoid fights with hostile people. At the same time we try to catch them for neutering or treatment if necessary. We usually follow the policy trap-neuter (or treatment)-release, as we have no possibility to keep them inside. There are very few privately owned or animal welfare shelters, with volunteers that are more than full all year round and it costs a lot of money to maintain a shelter as private person. To help Athina with her work we need:
1) financial support for regular neuterings
2) financial support for injured cats and kittens. Many times the volunteers find cats and kittens who had accidents with cars or are just mistreated and need surgery.
3) financial support for food, antibiotics, flea spot-on, traps, etc. We need a lot of food to feed so many strays on the streets, to help them survive, as many strays are found sick by the lack of food. Do you also have a big heart for all those strays wandering the streets of Athens ? Even if it is just one euro. Everything helps a lot! Deze pagina is bedoeld om geld op te halen om een vrouw in Athene te helpen met haar fantastische werk voor de vele katten en kittens die daar een vreselijk leven hebben op straat in de stad Athene, Griekenland. Ik heb deze vrouw ontmoet en al jaren zet zij zich met hart en ziel in om deze lieve dieren te helpen. Ze geeft haar geld eraan uit, haar huis en haar liefde, al jaren lang. Helaas is daar veel geld voor nodig. De katten worden door de regering alleen gelaten en de grieken zijn over het algemeen niet erg vriendelijk naar de dieren toe. Ze worden als oud vuil bij het vuilnis gezet in plastic zakken om dood te gaan, ze worden gebruikt als voetbal, ze worden vergiftigd en er gebeuren nog meer dingen die je liever niet weet....
Er leven vele katten op straat, hongerig en soms erg ziek. Athina heeft al vele katten in huis genomen maar helaas kan ze niet de hele wereld helpen. Elke dag gaat ze vele katten voeren, probeert ze als er geld is katten te vangen om ze te laten steriliseren/castreren. Daarna worden ze weer vrij gelaten maar dit is uiteindelijk wel de beste oplossing tegen het probleem. Ook probeert Athina katten te helpen met operaties. Vaak nodig omdat ze aangereden zijn, of ze moeten een oog missen door infecties, etc etc. Het is teveel om op te schrijven maar het geld is nooit genoeg om iets voor deze lieve diertjes te doen. De diertjes die Athína in huis heeft genomen om te helpen hebben vlooienmiddel nodig, ontwormingsmiddel, injecties, etc. Wil je Athina ook een klein beetje helpen ? Doneer alsjeblieft een paar euro voor dit goede doel ! Ook al is het maar 1 euro, alles is meegenomen. Rekeningnummer wordt via prive-bericht gegeven. Bewijs van uitgaves worden op verzoek getoond.
