Τι σημαίνει κουράγιο; Είναι κάτι ηρωικό ή βρίσκεται στις μικρές καθημερινές πράξεις; Είναι ατομικό ή συλλογικό; Και τι μνήμες κουβαλά μαζί του;
Στα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης Memory & Courage, στο πλαίσιο του Refugee Week Greece 2026, είχαμε την ευκαιρία να ακούσουμε τους καλλιτέχνες του Diaspora Artists Commission να μοιράζονται τις ιστορίες, τις σκέψεις και τις εμπειρίες που γέννησαν τα έργα τους. Μέσα από διαφορετικές μορφές τέχνης, εμπειρίες και διαδρομές, άνοιξαν έναν ουσιαστικό διάλογο για τη μνήμη, τον εκτοπισμό, την ανθεκτικότητα και το κουράγιο που μας συνδέει όλ@.
Ιδιαίτερη στιγμή της βραδιάς ήταν η ερώτηση: «Αν το κουράγιο ήταν χρώμα, τι χρώμα θα ήταν;» πολύχρωμο, γιατί χωρά όλες τις εμπειρίες και όλες τις φωνές· βαθύ κόκκινο, σαν τη γη και τον πηλό, το χρώμα της δημιουργίας, της ζωής και της δύναμης που μας βοηθά να συνεχίζουμε.
Ευχαριστούμε ιδιαιτέρως τους καλλιτέχνες Alina Kash*tsyna safaa odah Ilura Press Hamza Matyaqubov και Aggelos Barai για την εμπιστοσύνη και το μοίρασμα. Οι ιστορίες τους μας υπενθύμισαν ότι το κουράγιο δεν είναι πάντα κάτι μεγάλο και θορυβώδες· πολλές φορές βρίσκεται στην επιμονή να θυμόμαστε, να δημιουργούμε και να ονειρευόμαστε μαζί.
🏛️ Η έκθεση Memory & Courage φέρνει σε διάλογο το ιστορικό αρχείο της UNHCR GREECE με έργα καλλιτεχνών με μεταναστευτικό, προσφυγικό ή διασπορικό υπόβαθρο. Η έκθεση συνδιοργανώνεται από το ACCMR, την Ύπατη Αρμοστεία του ΟΗΕ για τους Πρόσφυγες και το We are Community.

What does courage mean? Is it something heroic, or is it found in the small acts of everyday life? Is it individual or collective? And what memories does it carry with it?
At the opening of the Memory & Courage exhibition, held as part of Refugee Week Greece 2026, we had the opportunity to hear the artists of the Diaspora Artists Commission share the stories, thoughts, and experiences that inspired their work. Through different artistic practices, lived experiences, and personal journeys, they opened a meaningful conversation about memory, displacement, resilience, and the courage that connects us all.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the question: “If courage were a color, what color would it be?” The answers were diverse: multicolored, because it holds all experiences and all voices; deep red, like terra cotta, the color of creation, life, and the strength that helps us keep moving forward.
We would like to sincerely thank the artists Alina Kash*tsyna, safaa odah, Ilura Press, Hamza Matyaqubov, and Aggelos Barai for their trust and openness in sharing their stories. Their reflections reminded us that courage is not always something grand or loud; often, it is found in the persistence to remember, to create, and to dream together.
🏛️ The Memory & Courage exhibition brings into dialogue the historical archive of UNHCR GREECE with works by artists from migrant, refugee, and diaspora backgrounds. The exhibition is co-organized by ACCMR, UNHCR Greece, and We Are Community.
