One City, Many Stories: What’s Your Connection with Athens?

How does it feel to be in a new city, in a new place? And how differently do we experience the same city?

For the third year, Inter Alia and College Year in Athens (College Year in Athens) bring together CYA students and people living in Athens to explore their different experiences of the city through art, conversation and collective creation.

This year, we will create one city together.

Working on a large shared piece of paper, newcomers and locals will be invited to bring their own experiences of Athens into a collective artwork. Using different materials, images, words, colours and shapes, participants will gradually build a city that reflects the many different ways Athens can be seen, experienced and imagined.

For some, Athens is a completely new place. For others, it is home. And for many of us, our relationship with the city is constantly changing.

What makes us feel that we belong to a place? What makes a city feel unfamiliar? Which parts of Athens feel welcoming, exciting, frustrating or inaccessible? What would we change about the city, and what would we want to preserve?

No artistic experience is needed. Come with your experiences, observations and ideas, and help us build our version of Athens together.

This is not a typical “discover the city” workshop. It is a space to question, exchange and create.

✨ Clay, Paper, Scissors: Action! ✨

Over three workshop cycles, working with paper, textiles, and clay, 16 femininities came together to share stories, reflect on their experiences of the city, and transform those reflections into collective acts of creativity and care.

Through craftivist practices, storytelling, body mapping, creative writing, and collaborative making, we explored themes of visibility, safety, joy, belonging, and community. What emerged were not only craftivist projects, but also new connections, shared dreams, and public interventions that carried our messages into the streets, public transport stations, and parks of Athens.

From posters, masks and paper mache bitter oranges, to care pillows, dream objects, and clay sculptures, each creation imagined a city where care, community, and collective wellbeing take center stage.

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared, crafted, imagined, and helped build this beautiful community 🙌

Our world is shaped by shockwaves: violent spikes testing the limits of what we thought was possible. Politics become explosions, earthquakes and colliding cosmic bodies, forcing sudden pressure waves upon us, destroying our surroundings. So what remains after another wave of urge washes over us? What can we gather from the ground before the next wave buries everything again?

Shockwaves are fast and destructive, but we can find ways to hijack them, to use them for transformation, even healing. In the dips between our struggles, we need to find the power - not only to catch our breath - but to experience joy, allowing us to stand together against the flow, not go with it.

☄️ With care and joy, we build a momentum capable of resisting the pressure of the upcoming waves. We will not be swayed.

🔊We invite filmmakers, documentarists, visual content creators, students and emerging artists to submit their short films. We are particularly interested in the topic of intersectionality; in the stories of characters, communities and individuals that, due to their identities and life-experiences, remain unseen.

🔊Our team and audience are charmed by aesthetic coherence as much as they are excited by simplicity. Shorts that reflect bold visions and personal urgency are, essentially, what we are after! Share your shorts with us! We eagerly await them, and look forward to meeting you in the cinema for 5 days of screenings, discussions, and parallel events.

The 3rd Progress Meeting of the YEP project has successfully come to an end in Logroño, Spain!
It was a productive meeting filled with meaningful discussions, shared learning, and inspiration for the next steps of the YEP journey.

We came together to discuss upcoming deliverables, coordinate the next stages of implementation, and strengthen our collaboration for the months ahead.

Beyond the project discussions, we also had the opportunity to explore different perspectives on urban planning and sustainable tourism in Logroño, reflecting on local challenges against a more sustainable, inclusive, and people-centred city.

Thank you to our hosts and all project partners for their hospitality, commitment, and collaboration!
