القومية السورية اليونانية هي فكرة أيديولوجية تتبنى الإيمان بالإثنية السورية اليونانية (أو روم بلاد الشام) - هوية يونانية شرقية فريدة موطنها الأصلي بلاد الشام. ببساطة، نحن نؤمن بالتعددية الإثنية في بلاد الشام ونتقبل مختلف الطوائف فيها كشعبنا المميز- الروم والسريان / الآراميين / الآشوريين والعرب والأرمن واليهود والأكراد ، إلخ. نحن نرى أن الروم (أو اليونانيون السوريون) هم نتاج الاختلاط الاجتماعي وانصهار أجيال من اللويين القدامى وشعوب البحر والإغريق والرومان والساميين الذين أخذوا الطابع الهيليني مع السكان المسيحيين الناطقين باليونانية في المنطقة قبل تعريبها. نحن ننظر للتراث اليوناني الرومي في بلاد الشام باعتباره الجوهر الإثني والثقافي لهويتنا ونكرم أسلافنا مثل أنطيوخس الثالث الكبير وبوسيدونيوس وزنوبيا.

لذا نطرح عليكم السؤال التالي: من هم المسيحيون الروم الأرثوذكس والروم الكاثوليك الملكيين في بلاد الشام؟ هل نحن روم أو سريان ملكيين؟

Attention Levantine Rûm | Do you know the difference between Syro-Hellenism (aka Levantine Romiosini) and Pan-Syrianism?
Syro-Greek Nationalism is an ideological notion that espouses the belief in a distinct Syro-Greek (or Levantine-Rûm) ethnicity – a unique eastern Greek identity native to the Levant. Simply put, we believe in the ethnic pluralism of the Levant and accept the various sects of the land as their own distinct people – Rûm, Syriacs/Arameans/Assyrians, Arabs, Armenians, Jews, Kurds, etc. According to us, Rûm (or Syro-Greeks) resulted from the social mixing and assimilation of generations of ancient Luwians, Sea Peoples, Greeks, Romans, and Hellenized Semites into the Greek-speaking Christian population of the region before its Arabization. We embrace the Levant's Greco-Roman heritage as the ethnocultural core of our identity and honor our ancestors like Antiochus III the Great, Posidonius, and Zenobia.
For Syro-Greek Nationalists, today's Greek Orthodox and Melkite-Greek Catholic Christians are the core remanence of this former Greek-speaking nation. The heirs of the original Churches of Antioch and Jerusalem, with which the Syriac Christians broke communion in the 5th century AD. We do not have fantasies of independence or statehood. Instead, we seek recognition and acceptance in a stable and secular society.
In contrast, Pan-Syrianism, or Syrian Social Nationalism, is the ideological notion that espouses the belief in a distinct Syrian national identity and calls for creating a secular nation-state over the Levant and Mesopotamia, known to its adherents as "Greater Syria." Proponents view any non-Semitic identity or heritage as "foreign," "occupying," and "un-Syrian" - even though the ancient Levant and Mesopotamia have never been purely Semitic homelands and have been home to countless language families and cultures throughout history. According to them, the Syrian nation is the product of the social mixing and assimilation of the various Semitic-speaking peoples of the Levant and Mesopotamia into a single unique Semitic civilization. Simply put, it's Arabo-Aramaic Nationalism.
For Syrian Social Nationalists, today's Greek Orthodox and Melkite-Greek Catholic Christians are ethnic Syrian Christians, or "Melkite-Syriacs." Semitic Christians that "abandoned" the Jacobite Church to follow a "foreign" "heretical," "offshoot" loyal to the Byzantine Greeks (or Rûm). In their delusion, we are not Rûm but "Heretical Jacobites" and taught to praise Assyrian heroes like Esarhaddon and Arabized our own kin like Saint George of Lydda. After 3,000 years of coexistence, Rûm are not allowed to exist in "Greater Syria" unless we identify as "confused" Semitic Christians and vilify our Hellenistic and Greco-Roman heritage to be accepted by Syrian Social Nationalists and Arab Nationalists alike.
