Dear friends! We hope you all have had a good summer. We are delighted to share with you what is going on at the Danish Institute this autumn. As you see, there is lots to look forward to as the days get shorter: talks on modern history, archaeology, a symposium on Greek and Danish contemporary literature as well as ancient philosophy. All are welcome!

Arbejder du på et projekt med tilknytning til Grækenland eller Det Østlige Middelhav? Og kunne du i den forbindelse bruge et arbejdsophold i Athen? Det Danske Institut i Athen tager nu imod ansøgninger om ophold for foråret 2027. Forskere, studerende, arkitekter, forfattere, kunstnere og andre, hvis arbejde har relation til græsk kultur i fortid eller nutid, kan søge. Fristen er 10. september. Læs mere ved at følge linket.

Det Danske Institut i Athen er både en forskningsinstitution og et kulturinstitut. Instituttets formål er at fremme forskning, undervisning og kulturformidling inden for Grækenlands og Middelhavslandenes arkæologi, historie, sprog, litteratur, billedkunst, arkitektur og kulturtraditioner.

Congratulations to directors Dr Søren Handberg and Dr Olympia Vikatou on this informative piece about the excavation of ancient Kalydon. DIA is proud to continue our collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Aitoloacarnania and Lefkada on this important project. 2026 marks the centenary of the first archaeological work at the site of Kalydon, and if you're interested in the long history of Greek and Danish field work at the site, don't miss the exhibition 'Kalydon - Then and Now' currently on show at the Nordic Library at Athens.

We are excited to welcome Alexandros Tourtas to the Danish Institute at Athens! Alex is our new postdoc at DIA in collaboration with the Department of History and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. An experienced underwater Archaeologist, Alex will be investigating Greek maritime cultural landscapes, combining archaeological, environmental, spatial, and ethnographic perspectives. He joins us as part of the new Cape Samonion Archaeological Project (CaSAP) funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. We are looking very much forward to the collaboration!

On Friday 5 June, WHI ensemble will give a concert at the Danish Institute at Athens. Come celebrate the beginning of summer with us to the sound of this renowned experimental musical ensemble on Friday 5 June at 20.30. Everyone is welcome and no registration is needed. See you on Friday!

The Danish Institute is proud to present the WHI ensemble who are back with more pieces by contemporary composers, including Carl Bergstrøm Nielsen.
