* Foodbank Thursday at Fayi *

We like Thursdays. Because every Thursday our partner Steps brings us a part of the donations they received from the local foodbank.
Every thursday it is a surprise what we will receive and it's always a pleasant surprise. From basic food items like pasta, legumes and flour, to more special products like coffee, chocolatbars or chips.
Products that we normally don't offer but that we happily put on our shelves because we know the people will love them.
Food is not only necessary, it also gives comfort and joy and if you cannot afford these luxuries, being able to choose them in the free shop is a meaningful extra.

These weeks products are breakfast cereals, orzo, coffee, white beans, flour, coconut chocolat cubes and chips.

Some donations travel far and some come from just around the block ♡

A few weeks ago a woman living in the neighbourhood passed by the free shop. She said that she noticed a lot of people coming here, including many children, and wanted to understand better what we are doing and if there is a way to support us. She offered her help saying 'we are a community. We also have children. We can help'.
Ofcourse we can only encourage this and we see the value of this community support.
After our first chat she already came by several times to donate items for children, like clothes and toys, and also some household items.

And last week, like she could read our minds, she brought us this puppet theater and a small kitchen, including pots, pans, cuttlery and tiny vegetables and food items.
An amazing and perfectly timed gift, as we were not only planning to improve our kids corner, but having exactly a play kitchen in mind for our new play area. What can possibly suit better in a free shop where food plays the main role?
So ever since we see little kitchen princes and princesses prepairing wonderful meals while their parents do the shopping.

We are thankful for having neighbours like this, who value what we do and who want to be a part of this 🩷

Check out the month of June in numbers!

We ended the month of June with 287 registered families. These families represent a total amount of 905 people, 558 over 12 years and 347 under 12 years, who are invited on a monthly basis to collect their food and hygiene products from our free shop.

Like many parents do when they go to the supermarket, a lot of the parents registered at Fayi bring (some of) their children to collect their monthly groceries from our free shop. We see parents taking their time to collect food and hygiene products, choosing wisely in order to spend their points in the best way.
And the kids? They either play by themselves, entertain the volunteers or explore the free shop.
And some get a bit impatient after a while..

But not anymore! Like most supermarkets, also Fayi now has the small shopping carts for the little ones who like to help their fathers or mothers.
Tested and approved today by these two brothers 💛

Pasta, babyfood&snacks, riso Italiano, tomato passata, zuppa di legumi, more babyfood and a lot more pasta; these were the products we received some time ago, from our friends of SHARE ODV in Italy. 

As always, when it comes to food, they know what they are talking about. And this showed in the popularity of these products in our free shop. The pasta and jars of babyfood with cheese, fish or veggies are leaving the free shop like candies in a candystore. 

So we can proudly say that the donated products have been a great success, especially because of the large number of families who rely on our service. Initiatives like these also allow us to provide support that is better adapted to each recipient’s needs, giving every family and individual the opportunity to choose their own food and essential products according to their situation.

We would like to sincerely thank ODV for their collaboration and generosity, once again, as this hasn't been the first time they supported us with food items.

Every contribution makes a difference and helps us to continue supporting those who need it most 💛

In January, 174 children under the age of 12 received support through 💛

At , our point system is designed around the nutritional needs of each household, taking into account family size and age distribution. As nutritional and energy needs differ by age, children up to 12 years old are calculated with child portions, while individuals aged 12 and above are calculated with adult portions, ensuring a fair and balanced distribution of food — always with care, dignity, and choice.

Τον Ιανουάριο, 174 παιδιά κάτω των 12 ετών βρήκαν στήριξη στο 💛

Στο , υπολογίζουμε τους πόντους με βάση τις διατροφικές ανάγκες κάθε οικογένειας, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το μέγεθος και τις ηλικίες των μελών της. Καθώς οι ανάγκες σε ενέργεια και ποσότητα διαφέρουν ανά ηλικία, τα παιδιά έως 12 ετών υπολογίζονται με παιδικές μερίδες, ενώ τα άτομα άνω των 12 ετών με μερίδες ενήλικα, ώστε να διασφαλίζεται μια δίκαιη και ισορροπημένη κατανομή τροφίμων — πάντα με φροντίδα, σεβασμό και επιλογή.
