“Bios – life – may serve as a lever to lift the spirit of the world.” This is what led to the inception of the Biopolitics International Organisation (B.I.O.), an environmental NGO founded in Athens in 1985 and currently having members and supporters in 151 countries world-wide. Through a plethora of conferences and publications, B.I.O. has made a major contribution to international environmental awareness and education. founded the International University for the Bio-Environment (I.U.B.E.). The goal was to infuse educational institutions with bios concepts and introduce the environment in every academic discipline and professional initiative. To further this cause, B.I.O. also launched an international campaign for Environmental Olympics and Bios Prizes to celebrate achievements in environmental protection. Cease fire during the Olympic Games is a major part of this initiative, and the respective B.I.O. proposal was adopted as a resolution by the UN General Assembly. Threats to the environment do not discriminate along national boundaries, ethnicity or religion. They can be resolved through multilateral co-operation and through bio-diplomacy. Peace can become a reality if the world acknowledges the value of co-operation in environmental protection and joins in a global appreciation of bios.
