ERGO Collective

ERGO Collective is a creative platform founded on the premise of collaboration. Our journey began in a nomadic manner with an emphasis on site specific events.

We approach collective creativity as a mode of encouraging dialogue and learning through and with each other. Our team is formed by six core members and a growing number of contributors from Athens and abroad. From 2019, ERGO occupied a physical space in Kato Petralona (Athens), exploring its new identity as an artist-run space. This stability facilitated a more spontaneous ethos when realizing pr

ojects, ideas and initiatives. In April 2024, ERGO moves to a new home and becomes one of the hosts of the new performance space TZAMIA KRYSTALLA. This marks a new direction with a focus on performativity as means of creation, both as an approach and as a result. To have a home, means to be a host and therefore ERGO is welcoming creatives from around the world to share and propose ideas on exhibitions, performances, workshops, symposia, screenings and residencies. Throughout our annual program, ERGO’s home becomes a collective topos, where guest artists and members synthesize a line of discourse through their temporary inhabitation of the space. Our ambition is to dynamically weave the narrative of ERGO Collective’s ever growing network. Fusing our diverse theoretical and practical backgrounds, we reflect on the outcomes of those initiatives, tracing and exploring undercurrent themes and ideas. This process of osmosis inspires us to construct and constantly reimagine ERGO’s collectivity: a mosaic of composite histories. Our core team and its physical space represents the stable ground from which stems the all branching growth of our networks through contributions and collaborations. ERGO Collective was initiated in September 2017 by Antonia Economou and Ellie Antoniou.

Προσεγγίζουμε τη συλλογική δημιουργικότητα ως μέσο ενθάρρυνσης του διαλόγου και της γνώσης που προκύπτει από τη μεταξύ μας τριβή. Η ομάδα μας αποτελείται από έξι βασικά μέλη και έναν αυξανόμενο αριθμό συντελεστών από την Αθήνα και το εξωτερικό.

Η αρχική μας μορφή είχε νομαδικό χαρακτήρα, με έμφαση στις site specific εκδηλώσεις. Από το 2019 μέχρι το 2023 η ERGO κατέλαβε έναν φυσικό χώρο στα Κάτω Πετράλωνα (Αθήνα), εξερευνώντας τη νέα της ταυτότητα ως artist-run space. Αυτή η σταθερότητα δημιούργησε το έδαφος προς ένα πιο αυθόρμητο ήθος. Έτσι, εξερευνήθηκε μια αμεσότητα στην υλοποίηση προτάσεων και ιδεών.
Από τον Απρίλιο του 2024 η ERGO μετακομίζει και γίνεται ένας από τους host του νεοσύστατου χώρου TZAMIA KRYSTALLA, μία στέγη αφιερωμένη στο performance. Ξεκινώντας ένα νέο κεφάλαιο, η ΕRGO εστιάζει πλέον στην παραστατικότητα ώς μέσο, ως προσέγγιση και ως αποτέλεσμα.

Για εμάς, το να έχεις στέγη, σημαίνει να είσαι οικοδεσπότης. Ως εκ τούτου, η ERGO καλωσορίζει δημιουργούς από όλο τον κόσμο για να μοιραστούν και να προτείνουν εκθέσεις, performances, εργαστήρια, συμπόσια, προβολές και residencies. Κατά τη διάρκεια του ετήσιου προγράμματός μας, το σπίτι της ERGO γίνεται ένας συλλογικός τόπος, όπου οι φιλοξενούμενοι καλλιτέχνες και τα μέλη συνθέτουν μια σειρά πολύμορφων διαλόγων μέσω της προσωρινής τους κατοίκησης στο χώρο. Η φιλοδοξία της ERGO είναι να υφάνει δυναμικά την αφήγηση του συνεχώς αυξανόμενου δικτύου της ως collective.

Συνδυάζοντας το ποικίλο θεωρητικό και πρακτικό μας υπόβαθρο, αναλογιζόμαστε τα αποτελέσματα αυτών των πρωτοβουλιών, ανιχνεύοντας και διερευνώντας υποκείμενα θέματα και ιδέες. Αυτή η διαδικασία όσμωσης μας εμπνέει να κατασκευάζουμε και επανακαθορίζουμε συνεχώς τη συλλογικότητα της ERGO: ένα μωσαϊκό σύνθετων ιστοριών. H ERGO Collective (AMKE - Αστική Μη Κερδοσκοπική Εταιρία) ξεκίνησε τον Σεπτέμβρη του 2017 με βασική ομάδα τους: Αντωνία Οικονόμου, Έλλη Αντωνίου.

"Σε ένα [αρχικά] ασπρόμαυρο σκηνικό που διαρκώς αλλάζει, παράξενα όντα ξεδιπλώνουν μια goth αφήγηση που θυμίζει μεσαιωνικό ποίημα, ενώ μοιάζει να αντλεί έμπνευση τόσο από την αρχαία τραγωδία όσο και την ασιατική χοροθεατρική περφόρμανς αλλά παράλληλα θυμίζοντας κάτι και από την αισθητική των Dirty Granny tales και των Smashing Pumpkins."

Slit Show is a series of processual showings as part of Karis Zidore’s residency and research at ERGO Collective and The Danish Institute in Athens in March 2024. With the performance’s thematics around revealing comes the need for an external gaze. Therefore, the public showings in ERGO Collective will function as part of Zidore’s investigation and occur at different stages of the research process. The public showings will be for various and limited number of audiences. Pre-booking a spot is therefore necessary.

Our journey began in a nomadic manner with an emphasis on site specific shows. Today ERGO occupies a physical space in Athens making its first steps as an artist-run-space. Our new space allows the collective to be more spontaneous on realising projects, ideas and activities.
