After months of collaboration, reflection, and drawing on nearly 9 years of experience supporting young people, we are proud to announce the completion of our methodology:

“How to Create Safe Spaces for Unaccompanied Refugee Youth” 💛

This 65-page practical guide brings together the knowledge, tools, lessons learned, and approaches that have shaped our work over the years. Designed for youth workers, social workers, and organisations, it aims to support the creation of environments where young people feel safe, valued, empowered, and connected.

More than a methodology, this document reflects the resilience, strengths, and voices of the young people who continue to inspire our work every day.

The guide will be available on the Safe Spaces website and the Velos Youth website in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Last week, Velos Youth Centre and Geitonia came together once again to host a two-day Motivational Interviewing training for professionals working with young refugees and asylum seekers 🙌

Led by UK-based specialists Merav Devere and Sue Shaw, the training offered valuable tools around active listening, open questions, affirmations, and supporting young people to discover their own path towards change.

Beyond the learning itself, it was also a meaningful opportunity to connect, reflect, and share experiences with professionals from across the sector.

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming young people from the Archery Foundation to Velos Youth Centre 🙌

What made this exchange especially meaningful was discovering the shared experiences connecting our communities. Coming from migrant and refugee family backgrounds themselves, these young people brought deep empathy, curiosity, and a strong commitment to inclusion and solidarity.

Together, we exchanged ideas, reflected on the realities faced by refugee youth, and explored how young people can support one another across borders.

We’re grateful for this inspiring visit and hopeful that it marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration 💛

During the visit, we shared our work at Velos Youth — the challenges we navigate and the practices we’ve developed over time. One thing stood out clearly: before any tools or methods, trust and genuine relationships are what truly support young people to thrive.
