Opening of the Solo Exhibition ‘The Line We Cross’ by Austrian artist Marlene Heidinger on 8 November, 20:00

‘Marlene Heidinger’s work unfolds bonding moments of people coming together in a complete abstractness of a space, in a collective attempt to connect and empathize. In this effort of doing so, they need to face each other, within all the claustrophobic feelings of what meeting each other's individuality may bring. A red thread sarcastically commenting on the scenes with a feeling of celebration, is simultaneously pointing out the emergency of better defined boundaries while also resembling the ways the path to find one another unfolds: it twists, it loops, it gets tangled and untangled.

The exhibition at Livingroom Athens ( Marathonos 71, 104 33 Metaxourgeio) will run until 23 November, for further information please check Living Room and Instagram .

Open Lecture "From Pan-Germanism to Austrian Particularism and the Politics of Loss: Austria 1945-2025"

Location: Aiolou 42-44, Room 4, Department of Political Science & Public Administration, Laboratory for the Study of Greek-German Relations, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

In the event, Christian Karner Austrian Visiting Professor at EKPA (former Professor of Sociology at the University of Lincoln, author of Nationalism Revisited and Sociology in Times of Glocalization) will trace the history of Austria's politics of identity from the post-war context to today. Drawing on seminal secondary literature for the earlier decades as well as on an extensive corpus of Austrian media materials (i.e. spanning the period from 2003 to today), he captures the following historical shift and dynamic: symbols of Austrian self-identification that acquired widespread traction in the period between 1945 and 1989 have since come to be re-evaluated and are frequently found to be "under threat".
