Today, MIO-ECSDE actively contributed to the European Commission's consultation ‘Civil Society Perspectives on the Pact for the Mediterranean's Action Plan’ held in Brussels in support of the implementation of this flagship EU initiative launched in November 2025.

Representing MIO-ECSDE were its Chairman Prof. Michael Scoullos, Dr. Emad Adly, General Coordinator of RAED-Arab Network for Environment & Development, and Jeremie Fosse, Director of Eco-union. All were panelists of the session that discussed Community Preparedness and Disaster-Risk Awareness.

MIO-ECSDE emphasised that building trust and confidence among stakeholders is fundamental for the success of the Pact. The network's long-standing work in empowering local communities through participatory approaches, advancing Education for Sustainable Development and recognising the essential role of women and youth has already contributed to this, while at the same time fostering cooperation with and among regional organisations, including the جامعة الدول العربية - League of Arab States, the Union for the Mediterranean, UNEP/MAP, etc.. Building on the region's existing instruments, networks, accumulated knowledge and practical experience is an essential enabling condition for ensuring that the Pact delivers lasting and meaningful impact.

🗞️ Day three of a super intensive stocktaking meeting in Tunis is wrapping up, just as the Mediterranean Sea Programme itself nears its end.

💡 At the same time fervent discussions are underway for designing the follow-up phase under GEF-9 that covers from climate resilience and biodiversity conservation to sustainable food systems, healthy oceans, and pollution reduction.

MIO - ECSDE joined a little over a year ago to consolidate hashtag engagement, with emphasis on hashtag , and is proud to have supported the MedProgramme in achieving tangible results.

💚 Looking forward to the next steps and partnership that will help advance the region on its route to sustainability.

🦩 MIO-ECSDE stands in solidarity with the Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania and the people of Albania in defending the Vjosa–Narta Protected Landscape 🦩

This unique ecosystem—home to endangered species, vital wetlands, and key migratory bird routes—is under increasing pressure from proposed developments that raise serious environmental concerns.

We call for transparency, public participation, and strict respect for environmental law and biodiversity protections.

👉 We urge everyone to support PPNEA’s petition addressed to the Government of Albania, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and international environmental organisations, to sign it, and to share it widely.
