Hand in Hand with Rohingya

Hand in Hand with Rohingya Hellenic Youth Participation and Hara NGO have joined forces to help the Rohingya people.

Rohingya people are Arakanese Indians who have been continuously denied citizenship from the Myanmar government since 1982. As the government does not recognize as one of the national ethnicity, they have restricted their access to education, job market and movement. In 2013, United Nations have declared that they are one of the most prosecuted minorities in the world. Since Autumn of 2016 until n

ow, the situation has exponentially aggravated. The triggering phenomenon was an attack by some Rohingya insurgents on three Burmese border posts resulting in 13 deaths, according to Myanmar government. Following the attacks, the Myanmar military forces have targeted all the Rohingya community, justifying with their crackdown on suspected Rohingya insurgents. Pillaging their villages, committing several human right abuse leaving about 1 million people displaced looking for safety in Bangladesh. UN officials and HRW have described Myanmar's persecution of the Rohingya as ethnic cleansing, and creating what U.N. Secretary described as "the world's fastest-developing refugee emergency... a humanitarian nightmare." Therefore, Hellenic Youth Participation and Hara NGO have started a campaign to collect clothes to send to Bangladesh to support the displaced Rohingya people.
