ECHO Mobile Library

ECHO Mobile Library A mobile library and education hub for people on the move or newly arrived in Athens. The ECHO Refugee Library is our flagship project.

support us on our crowdfunding page here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/loveourlibrary10moreyears ECHO (Education.Community.Hope.Opportunity) is an organisation dedicated to fostering community and education initiatives in refugee camps. We hope to transform the sites in which we work from places of stagnancy and waiting, to places where dreams and drive remain alive. Much like the way an ec

ho carries, the voices of those on the journey to safety can and must be heard miles from where they began, and further still. Thousands of people are stuck in Greece, forced into camps with extremely low living conditions and an interminable wait for their asylum claim. The wait is long, anxiety-ridden, and uncomfortable, and ways of supporting people to fill their time in creative and meaningful ways are few on the ground, especially in the remote camps in which we operate. These are individuals hungry for action, for work, for education – most are former students, skilled workers, and professionals whose lives have been violently uprooted. We hope to provide them with the know-how they need to carry their experience and knowledge into the next stage of their journeys. Their lives are at a standstill; they need not be. Our aim in setting up these libraries is to nurture a space of learning and creativity, a place to cultivate the mind - that one part of us that can never be held captive. It is a place where goals and ambition can be worked towards, regardless of the grim reality of the present. In our library spaces, we provide the following:

-Books and a quiet reading space
-Access to online learning
-Language learning resources
-Informal small group tutoring upon request
-Advice on university and job application processes
-A space for community-led creative workshops

This is a post dedicated to the very finest librarians and friends we could hope for.

At the start of the year Tulsi came to us and said that she and Carlotta wanted to support the library in its 10th Anniversary celebrations by helping to raise some money to see us into the next 10 years.

Months of gruelling training and a busted knee later last week Tulsi & Carlotta completed the North Yorkshire Way - 100km in 24 hours - and in doing so raised more than ÂŁ4,500 for our library. It's a staggeringly impressive achievement, somehow slightly surreal when you think about it - constant walking for 24 hours in order to reach the finish line, makes our feet hurt just to imagine it.

We are so so grateful to you two wonderful women, a mere 'thank you' is not enough.

So, who's in for next year????

Late last year we were visited by Martin, a journalist and library enthusiast who was in Athens to see many things, including our bookmobile

For you Swedish speakers out there, here is the article he wrote about the ECHO mobile library.

Thank you Martin!

ECHO mobile library muses - 2025 fundraiser
!!!!!!!!!!FINAL DAY!!!!!!!!!!

We thought we'd save our favourite (it's no secret) til last.

Emma Goldman, the dynamite-eating anarchist. With a nomenclature like that she was clearly doing something right.

We hope you have enjoyed discovering the wonderful ECHO library muses as much as we did researching them.

A massive thank you to all our wonderful illustrators. We are overwhelmed with your kindness and generosity in giving your time and skills to make our muses a reality. We owe you a cup of tea and several slices of cake.

Our library cannot survive without your support. If you can, please donate today to keep us rolling into 2026.

Love ideas - love our library
