Three startups, three Sustainable Development Goals: clean water (SDG 6), accessible eye care (SDG 3) and affordable housing (SDG 11).

That was the panel at our annual networking event at the Residence of the Ambassador of the Netherlands on 21 September, where Dimitris Iossifidis (Greener Than Green Technologies), Myrto Pantelaki (KORI) and Dafni Drosou (Flatpulse) shared their impact stories.

The COP31 International Sustainable Buildings Competition is looking for projects that can show what sustainability looks like in practice.
From existing green buildings to new sustainable designs, the competition recognises projects delivering real results. One of its two initiatives goes a step further, assessing buildings based on actual energy savings using metered performance data.

This weekend, the conversation turns to water.

Over two months, we worked one to one with every olive producer and venture in the first cohort of our RE:OLIVE initiative, going deep into their sustainability strategy and the timeline to get there.

Every business has its own buyers, its own costs, its own next decision, so no two farms got the same plan. We built around twenty practical tools and used them one business at a time. A small family farm in the Peloponnese and a new producer in Crete do not need the same advice or a generic template. They did not get it.

The group sessions added something else: a community. People with the same questions, swapping what actually works. That sense of not being on your own counts for a lot.

A large seminar gets a message to many people fast. Working small and close does something different: It builds real change and the relationships to sustain it.

Together with LIA' Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil Hub and TheRockGroup, we are now designing the second phase of RE:OLIVE. More soon.

Most programmes usually bring together people who are already alike: producers with producers, startups with startups. We did the opposite.



In the first RE:OLIVE cohort, we put olive producers in the same room as a technology venture that recovers value from what the sector treats as waste, the rejected water byproduct at olive mills. On paper they had little in common. In practice, one side's problem, waste from the olive oil process, was the other side's raw material.



New business models rarely appear among people who already think the same way. They appear at the edges, where a producer and an engineer find they need each other.



Designing these connections, together with LIÁ Olive Oil Hub and TheRockGroup, is a large part of what RE:OLIVE is for.
