The group “ Ghosts of Aspropyrgos or Ghost Dogs of Aspropyrgos” was created when people who

work/live there,made a plea for help for the stray animals in the area who live under dire conditions . The first get-together took place on Saturday February 11 2012 with the participation of a large group of the volunteers . About 30 to 35 people assembled and visited three locations where they fed strays and made a first written assessment as to the number and state of health of the animals . Unfortunately, one year later, only 6-7 people still fighting for these four-legged little ghosts and the demands of the big number of strays , most which are sick , brought the volunteers to a sentimental and financial standstill . The conclusion we reached was that a coordinated team effort is needed in order to properly help the helpless animals . There is a need for neutering, therapies for those strays that suffer from growths, lodging and promotion of the animals for adoption. THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE WE ACT:

Thanks to the support of others, Fundo has been staying at a paid dog hotel for the past two years.

Two months ago, the person who cares for him noticed some strange behavior—he wouldn’t let anyone touch him and was growling... He took him straight to a clinic, where an abdominal ultrasound revealed a swollen spleen that required emergency surgery.

Foudo underwent surgery, and thankfully, everything went well!!!!
The cost of the surgery was 744 euros. With additional help from our supporters and a contribution we made ourselves, we managed to pay almost the entire amount. The remaining balance is 120 euros.

The expenses are now unbearable... food, medicine, tests...

We may not be able to provide them with a home, but together we can offer them a bowl of food, because hunger is agonizing...

Aspropyrgos is a vast area with hundreds (if not thousands) of stray animals. All these years, we’ve been making a tremendous effort, often pushing beyond our limits and endurance to save as many as we can.

So every Saturday, there are various locations scattered throughout Aspropyrgos where we feed, spay/neuter, and monitor packs of dogs as well as feral cat colonies. There are over forty dogs, and perhaps even more cats, since they’re harder to count.
In addition to our occasional outreach efforts, we provide food to animal-loving residents in the area so they can feed the strays in their neighborhood, and of course, we supply food to our animals who are in foster care and searching for their forever homes.

As you can imagine, the cost is very high, and without your help, we won’t be able to fulfill our commitment to these souls who are waiting for us—even just for this one day—to fill their bellies and receive the affection they so desperately need...
