(1)

The Door of Return is a construction made by the association of capoeira in Gambia. The idea was to have a place to receive and welcome the descendants of slaves that was stolen from Africa during the colonial period. Since the martial art of capoeira was invented by the African slaves in Brazil, the idea was to invite the great Brazilian masters to come back to Africa to know their roots and shar

e their knowledge. This project is aiming to make that vision come true and as a result, make a documentary about the journey that will unite African culture and people across continents. The project will aim to raise money trough Kickstarter to invite a group of some of the best afrobrazilian capoeiristas to come to Africa for the first time. They will attain a ceremony at the door of return where they will be welcomed and accepted as a part of the family by the local tribes. Afterwards they will travel around the country for a week to experience their roots and spread the knowledge of capoeira. To ensure further growth of capoeira in Gambia, the most experienced capoeiristas in Gambia will be given a trip to Brazil to do a training camp and return as qualified teachers.
